Ambra - Re-installing the original software for systems with ESS1788 audio/Sierra Modem/SIS 6205 video

How do I reload my Ambra computer with the ESS1788 audio card, Sierra modem and the SIS 6205 video adapter?

Answer:
Follow the steps below.

*** ATTENTION ***
If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.

For the operation you will need:
The Windows 95 start-up disk
The Windows 95 CD
The Windows 95 Certificate of Authenticity (found on the cover of the Windows 95 manual)
The FM563 video and audio driver diskette
The Modem driver diskette

Installing Windows 95

  1. Insert the Windows 95 start-up disk and then start the computer.
  2. When at the A:\ prompt insert the Windows 95 CD.
  3. Type the word "FDISK" and press Enter.
  4. Choose option 3 and press Enter.
  5. Choose option 1, then press Enter.
  6. When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
  7. It will then ask you for the volume label, it should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL.
  8. Enter the volume label and then press Enter.
  9. When it asks you if you are sure, press "Y" and then press Enter.
  10. Press the Escape key (Esc) to continue.
  11. Choose option 1 and press Enter.
  12. From the second menu choose option 1 and then press Enter.
  13. When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer "YES" and press Enter.
  14. Restart the computer.
  15. At the A:\ prompt type "FORMAT C:" and press Enter.
  16. When asked for a volume label just press Enter.
  17. Then at the A:\ prompt type "D:" and press Enter.
  18. At the D:\ prompt type "SETUP" and press Enter.
  19. Then press the Enter key to continue.
  20. At this point the mouse will work, you can then click on continue.
  21. Click on YES to accept the software agreement.
  22. Click on NEXT to start collecting information about the hardware installed in your computer.
  23. Click on NEXT to install Windows 95 into the default directory.
  24. Click on NEXT for a typical installation.
  25. Enter the Certificate of Authenticity number found on the cover page of your Windows 95 guide.
  26. Click on NEXT.
  27. Enter your name and company (company optional), then click on NEXT.
  28. Click on NEXT, windows will then analyze your computer for the installed options.
  29. Click NEXT to install the most common components.
  30. Click on NO I DO NOT WANT A START-UP DISK, then click on NEXT.
  31. Click on NEXT to start copying the files to your hard drive.
  32. Remove the start-up disk from the A:\ drive.
  33. Click on FINISH to restart the computer.
  34. Click on OK when prompted to insert the Windows 95 CD.
  35. Click on CANCEL to continue.
  36. Click on the down arrow in the date and time properties to select the appropriate time zone.
  37. Click on CLOSE , then click on NEXT.
  38. Click on CANCEL in the ADD PRINTER WIZARD. You will install your printer with the specific disks it came with.
  39. Click on OK to restart the computer.

For the sound and modem

  1. When Windows restarts, click on Start, Settings and Control Panel.
  2. Double click on the System icon.
  3. Go to the Device Manager tab.
  4. Click on the plus sign to the left of Modem.
  5. Highlight the first item under Modem, then click on Remove.
  6. Do the same to all of the items under the Modem option until there is no Modem option left.
  7. Click on the plus sign to the left of Other Devices.
  8. Highlight the first option under that option and then click on Remove.
  9. Do the same to all of the items under the Other Devices option.
  10. If there is a Sound, Video and Game Controller option, click on the plus sign.
  11. Remove all the items under that option.
  12. Restart the computer.
  13. When Windows finds the new hardware, select Driver from disk provided by the hardware manufacturer.
  14. Insert the FM 563 audio and video driver diskette.
  15. Click on OK.
  16. Make sure Windows is searching on A:\ and click on OK.
  17. Windows will copy the files for the sound card.
  18. When done, remove the diskette.
  19. Windows should now find the modem.
  20. When Windows finds the new hardware, select Driver from disk provided by the hardware manufacturer.
  21. Click on OK.
  22. Insert the modem driver disk.
  23. Select Sierra Semiconductor, then click on OK.
  24. Select Sierra 28.8 Data wave fax SQ3465.
  25. Click on OK, and the modem is installed.

For the Video

  1. Insert the FM563 audio and video driver disk.
  2. Click on Start, Settings and Control Panel.
  3. Double click on the Display icon.
  4. Click on the Settings tab.
  5. Click on Change Display Type.
  6. Next to Adapter Type click on Change.
  7. Click on Have Disk.
  8. Make sure that Windows is looking in A:\SVGA.
  9. Click on OK.
  10. Windows will then copy the file needed.
  11. Click on Close, then click on apply.
  12. Restart the computer and you are done.
