Considerations

This document contains a list of hints, tips, and limitations that IBM is aware of on specific ThinkPad models with Windows 98 Upgrade installed. If you have not already installed Windows 98 please follow the ThinkPad Windows 98 Upgrade or Installation instructions available on the IBM Web Site.

Power Management and the Windows 98 Standby Function (Suspend)
The computer does not resume properly from Standby (Suspend) or the computer does not work properly after resuming from Standby (Suspend).
Models: ThinkPad 310x and 315x models.

Issue: The computer entered Standby (suspend) mode while it was in a MS-DOS session, but when it resumes, it returns to the Windows 98 desktop

Cause: IBM is currently looking into this issue.

Resolution: The MS-DOS session is still active behind the desktop. To return to the MS-DOS session, select the MS-DOS Prompt from the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.

Device Configuration and Setup on ThinkPad Configuration Utility
Configuring Devices on Windows 98.
Models: ThinkPad 310x and 315x models.
Issues: The serial and parallel ports on the Thinkpad are not disabled when using the BIOS setup.
Cause: Windows 98 controls the enabling and disabling of the serial and parallel ports on these ThinkPads.
Resolution: Use the Windows 98 Device Manager to enable and disable the serial and parallel ports.

Installation Instructions

To install Windows 98 to a blank hard drive.

To upgrade to Windows 98 from Windows 95.
