Ambra - Re-installing the original software on model 2454-C0E

How do I reinstall the original software on my Ambra 2454C0E?

Answer:
Follow the steps below.

*** ATTENTION ***
If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.

For this operation you will need:

The Windows 95 start-up disk
The Windows 95 CD
The Windows 95 Certificate of Authenticity
The USRobotics Connections CD
The SIS/ Multimedia IDE CD

For Windows 95:

  1. Insert the Windows 95 start-up disk and then (re)start the computer.
  2. At the A:\ prompt insert the Windows 95 CD.
  3. Type the word "FDISK" and press Enter.
  4. Choose option 3 and press Enter.
  5. Choose option 1 and press Enter.
  6. When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
  7. It will then ask you for the Volume Label, it should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL.
  8. Enter the Volume Label as it appears on the screen and then press Enter.
  9. When it asks you if you are sure, press Y and then press Enter.
  10. Press the Escape key to continue.
  11. Choose option 1 and press Enter.
  12. From the second menu choose option 1 and then press Enter.
  13. When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer YES and press Enter.
  14. Restart the computer.
  15. At the A:\ prompt type "FORMAT C:" and press Enter.
  16. When it asks for a Volume Label just press Enter.
  17. Then at the A:\ prompt type "D:" and press Enter.
  18. At the D:\ prompt type "SETUP" and press Enter.
  19. Press the Enter key to continue.
  20. At this point the mouse will work, you can then click on Continue.
  21. Click on YES to accept the Software Agreement.
  22. Click on NEXT to start collecting information about the hardware installed in your computer.
  23. Click on NEXT to install Windows 95 into the default directory.
  24. Click on NEXT for a typical installation.
  25. Enter the Certificate of Authenticity number found on the cover page of your Windows 95 guide.
  26. Then click on NEXT.
  27. Enter your name and company (company optional), then click on NEXT.
  28. Click on NEXT. Windows will then analyze your computer for the installed options.
  29. Click NEXT to install the most common components.
  30. Click on NO, I DO NOT WANT A START-UP DISK, then click on NEXT.
  31. Click on NEXT to start copying the files to your hard drive.
  32. Remove the start-up disk from the A:\ drive.
  33. Click on FINISH to restart the computer.
  34. Click on OK when prompted to insert the Windows 95 CD.
  35. Click on CANCEL to continue.
  36. Click on the down arrow in the date and time properties to select the appropriate time zone.
  37. Click on CLOSE , then click on NEXT.
  38. Click on CANCEL in the ADD PRINTER WIZARD. You will install your printer with the specific disks it came with.
  39. Click on OK to restart the computer.

For the sound:

  1. When Windows 95 restarts it will find the SB AWE 32 sound card and will install the software for it.
  2. You will then get a window that says Windows could not find a certain file. Press the SKIP FILE button to bypass this.
  3. You will get a second window with another file that cannot be found, SKIP the file again.
  4. A last window will appear with another file, SKIP the file also.
  5. You will then start into Windows and have sound.
  6. In Windows, click on Start, select Settings and choose Control Panel.
  7. Double click on the System icon.
  8. Click on the Device Manager tab.
  9. Double click on the Sound, Video and game controller option.
  10. Highlight the option that says Creative advanced wave effects synthesis for AWE 32 by clicking on it once.
  11. Click on the Remove button.
  12. When the device is removed, click on the Refresh button.
  13. Windows will find the sound card and then copy the files from the Windows 95 CD.
  14. The sound is now correctly installed.


For the modem:

  1. Double click on the OTHER DEVICES option.
  2. If there is no OTHER DEVICE option, skip the next 3 steps.
  3. Click on the first item under that option, then click on REMOVE.
  4. Do the same for all of the items under the OTHER DEVICES option.
  5. When done, you should no longer see the OTHER DEVICES option.
  6. Click on Start, select Shutdown and click the YES button.
  7. Wait for the computer to shut down. Now you will restart the computer and when you see PRESS DEL TO ENTER SETUP, press the DELETE key on the keyboard.
  8. At the menu highlight the INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS option with the arrow keys.
  9. Press Enter.
  10. Next to ONBOARD SERIAL PORT 2, highlight 2F8/IRQ 3.
  11. Then press the Page Up key on the keyboard until you see DISABLED.
  12. Press the ESCAPE key.
  13. At the main menu highlight Save and exit.
  14. Press Enter.
  15. Press the Y key.
  16. Press Enter and the computer will reboot.
  17. Windows 95 will then find the modem.
  18. Insert the USRobotics Connections CD.
  19. Click on NEXT.
  20. At the next window click on FINISH.
  21. Windows will the start and the sound and modem will be installed.

For the video adapter:

  1. Insert the SIS MULTIMEDIA/IDE CD.
  2. In Windows right click the mouse on an empty spot on the background.
  3. Select Properties, then click on SETTINGS.
  4. Then click on ADVANCED DISPLAY PROPERTIES or CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE.
  5. Next to adapter, click on CHANGE.
  6. Under SELECT DEVICE, click on HAVE DISK, then click on BROWSE.
  7. Select your CD ROM drive.
  8. Open the MM folder, then open the WIN95 folder.
  9. There should be a file highlighted on the left.
  10. Click on OK, then click on OK again.
  11. The SIS5596 driver should be highlighted.
  12. Click on OK.
  13. Windows will then copy the files to your hard drive.
  14. When done, click on CLOSE, then click on APPLY.
  15. Click on YES to restart the computer and the video drivers will be installed.
