TP General - Using an over head projection system

When using an external over head projection system on a ThinkPad you need to keep in mind one thing. When trying to display to both the LCD display and an external over head projection system (or any external device) the resolution available from the external video connector is going to be the default resolution of the LCD display on your ThinkPad. For example, if you have a ThinkPad 765, your LCD resolution is 1024x768 so when you are displaying to an external device and the LCD at the same time, the resolution available externally will be 1024x768. Changing the resolution in your operating system alone will not affect this. For example, if you change your resolution from 1024x768 to 640x480 in Windows 95 and are displaying to both the LCD and an external device, the resolution externally will still be 1024x768.
When attaching an over head projection screen to your ThinkPad and you want to display it to both the LCD and the projection screen, you need to ensure that the over head projection screen supports the highest resolution your ThinkPad LCD displays. If you attach an over head projection screen that supports 800x600 to a ThinkPad that supports 1024x768 on the LCD and you try to display it to both, you will either get a very distorted image or no image at all.
If you are going to be attaching an over head projection screen that supports less than the LCD resolution, you must change the resolution of the operating system to the supported resolution as well as set the ThinkPad up to display externally only for the video to be displayed properly. For most ThinkPads, this can be accomplished by pressing the FN+F7 key on your ThinkPad's keyboard. Please refer to your User's Guide for instructions for your particular ThinkPad.
