TP 365CD/ED,701 - How to install ESS audio drivers in Windows 95
Applicable to: World-Wide
To install the audio drivers for the TP 365C/CD or 701, follow these simple steps:
Note: Non CD-ROM equipped ThinkPad 365 models do not have audio support
1. Boot the system to the Windows 95 desktop.
2. Press the Start button on the task bar.
3. Move the pointer to Settings.
4. Left-click on Control Panel.
5. Open the System Properties window by double-clicking on System in Control Panel.
6. Select the Device Manager tab in the System Properties window.
7. Expand the Sound, video and game controllers section in the Device Manager window by left-clicking on the plus sign (+) to the left of the Sound, video and game controllers item in the Device Manager list.
8 Double-click on the ESS ES1688 (or ES688) Plug and Play AudioDrive to bring up the Properties window for the ESS ES1688 Plug and Play AudioDrive.
9. Select the Driver tab in the ESS ES1688 (or ES688) Plug and Play AudioDrive Properties window and left-click on the Change Driver button.
10. Left-click the Have Disk button on the Select Device panel.
11. Insert the Audio Driver diskette into the A: Drive.
12. Left-click the OK button in the Install From Disk window then left-click on the OK button in the Select Device window.
13. Selecting OK or Close in the remaining open windows of the System Properties panel will close those windows and complete installation of the new drivers.
14. Remove the diskette from the A: drive.
15. Make sure that you have selected Use single mode DMA for the Audio Driver. The steps for making this setting are given below:
- Go to Control Panel in Windows 95.
- Double-click Multimedia.
- Click Advanced in the Multimedia Properties window.
- Go to Audio Devices in the list of Multimedia devices.
- Double-click Audio for ESS ES1688 (or ES688) Plug and Play AudioDrive.
- Select Settings.
- Select Use single mode DMA and close all open windows by clicking OK or Close.
16. Restart Windows 95.
Note: This document applies to all 701 systems, however only applies to the following models of the 365 systems: 2625 - B05, W15, A05, W14, W9G, B6A.
