G96 19" FST Color Monitor - Product Overview

Applicable to: World-Wide

General Information
The G96 color monitor delivers affordable performance, and ease of use, and offers the following enhancements over the earlier IBM G94 Color Monitor:

The screen size also makes it suitable for handling more informationintensive applications including:

The new models include both pearl white and stealth black versions. The pearl white model matches IBM pearl white systems color while the stealth black color complements IBM IntelliStation Professional Workstation color.

These new monitors feature a 19-inch FST CRT with a viewable image size of 17.9 inches (454 mm), incorporating a 0.26 dot pitch. A maximum horizontal frequency of 95 kHz provides flicker-free operation at an optimum 1280 x 1024 pels at up to 85 Hz with a maximum addressability of 1600 x 1200 pels.

The new G96 models feature Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) capability for Plug and Play and asset tracking when the attaching system unit's hardware and software is DDC-enabled.

The new model's power management capability meets the power consumption requirements of Swedish National Board for Industrial and Technical Development (NUTEK). As an ENERGY STAR partner, IBM has determined that this product meets the ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency.

The G96 monitor supports the timings for the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 85 Hz refresh rate display modes for 640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, and 1280 x 1024 addressabilities. Appropriate graphics adapter hardware and software must be installed in the attaching system unit.

All models of the G96 monitor incorporate a universal power supply with mains harmonic reduction (EN 61000-3-2:1995), providing worldwide operating capability. Also, unless stated, all models are TCO-95 compliant.

The G96 monitor provides excellent text and graphics performance. Features of this new monitor include:

The higher level of humidity for shipping allows for condensation but not direct contact with moisture.

Acoustics:
Declared acoustical noise emissions LWAD = 4.5 Bels or less. The noise emission level stated is the declared (upper limit) A-weighted sound power level, in Bels, for a random sample of monitors. All measurements are made in accordance with ANSI S12.10, and reported in conformance with ISO 9296.

Emissions:
All models meet EN61000-3-2 for mains harmonic reduction.

Ergonomics:
Compliance to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 9241 Part 3 for front-of-screen ergonomics is provided when the product forms part of an ISO-compliant system.

Regulatory Agency Approvals:

Hardware Requirements:
The G96 color monitor is designed to operate with system units or graphic adapters that generate a video output signal that falls within the specifications:

Horizontal and vertical sync signal timings are critical in order to achieve acceptable screen images. As a consequence, support for all possible variations in H/V sync timings for any display mode cannot be stated.

National Language Support for Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe/Middle East/Africa, and Latin America is a function of the graphic adapter in the system unit and the application or support software.

Software Requirements:
The G96 color monitor features factory-preset and user-settable display modes. The actual display modes that are used are a function of the attaching system unit, its operating system, and application software.

Factory presets: 12
User locations: 10

Note:

The factory-preset modes cannot be overwritten, but can be adjusted to personal choice. The new settings are automatically stored in one of the user locations and are recalled each time that mode is used. The factory settings for the mode in use, if any, can be restored by operating the Geometry Reset control.
It may be necessary to make some adjustments to the displayed picture to compensate for variations in video signal timings. The user controls can be used to make these adjustments.

Compatibility:
The monitor is supplied with a attached video signal cable. This cable has the same 15-pin, D-shell video connector for system unit connection as previous IBM monitors. The monitor has been tested for compatibility with the following IBM systems:

Commercial Desktop Systems - - Video/Adapter Card

Aptiva

Displays - - Video/Adapter Card

Servers - - Video/Adapter Card

IntelliStation - - Video/Adapter Card

3270/5250 systems:

with the following parameters:

Network Station:

- Video Chip Set: S3 Trio 64+
- Video Memory: 1 MB Standard (upgradable to 2 MB)

Note:

Supported systems:

Limitations:

Cable Orders:
A video signal cable is supplied. It is 1.8 meters (6 ft) long with a 15-pin, mini D-shell connector. A separate signal cable adapter (96G2693) is required to provide "1010" ID bits at the monitor interface for those systems that require ID bits.
