Rescue and Recovery Update to fix directory permissions for Power Users group for Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP version 1 Installation Readme This update fixes a problem where the permissions on the Program Files directory may not be restored for the Power Users group after a restore operation of IBM Rescue and Recovery versions 1.00.0033, 2.00.0170, and 2.02.0178. This update is intended for any system running Rescue and Recovery versions 1.00.0033, 2.00.0170, and 2.02.0178. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and folders. 2. Type rnrpufix.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the rnrpufix.exe icon. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement. 5. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement. 6. Click Next. 7. Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to C:\RNRFIX. 8. Click Next. 9. Click Finish. Installing the update on systems that are not yet failing --------------------------------------------------------- 1. In the C:\RNRFIX directory, Update tcacls.bat with permissions required to restore as per your specifications. Note: Reference the XCACLS-CommandText.txt for the correct syntax to set the Permissions to the desired specifications. 2. From a command prompt, change to the C:\RNRFIX directory. 3. Type run.vbs, then press Enter. 4. Shutdown and restart your system for the changes to take effect. This script will perform the following operations: 1. Copy the postRestore.mod to %rru% 2. Copy the tcacls.bat and xcacls.vbs to %systemroot% 3. Update tvt.txt with the postRestore command to re-set permissions on the “Program Files” directory 4. Update tvt.txt in backup folder with the postRestore command to re-set permissions on the “Program Files” directory 5. Delete the postRestore.mod in %rru% Installing the update on systems that are already failing --------------------------------------------------------- 1. In the C:\RNRFIX directory, Update tcacls.bat with permissions required to restore as per your specifications. Note: Reference the XCACLS-CommandText.txt for the correct syntax to set the Permissions to the desired specifications. 2. From a command prompt, change to the C:\RNRFIX directory. 3. Type run.vbs, then press Enter. 4. Shutdown and restart your system. 5. From a command prompt, type cd %systemroot%, then press Enter. 6. Type tcacls.bat, then press Enter. Recommendation -------------- Make a backup after applying the fix. Note: The fix will not apply to the previous backups, backup should be done after applying the patch and restore from the backup done after the patch applied.
