Installation Readme


This firmware update was created to fix problems writing CD-Rs and CD-RW
under Windows Vista. It also improves the drive's ability to read DVD-RW
discs written by other drives.


Supported systems
=================
This package applies to the following systems configured with the TSST TS-493A
SATA CD-RW/DVD combo drive (service part number FRU 41N3255):

- ThinkCentre A55 (type 9636, 9638, 9640, 9641)
- ThinkCentre M55 (type 6486, 6487, 6488, 6489, 8009, 8010, 8011, 8012,
  8791, 8792, 8793, 8794, 8795, 8796, 8797, 8798, 8799, 8800, 8801, 8802,
  8803, 8804, 8805, 8806, 8807, 8808, 8810, 8811, 8812, 8813, 8814, 8816)
- ThinkCentre M55e (type 9642, 9643, 9644, 9645)
- ThinkCentre M55p (type 6487, 6488, 8792, 8794, 8796, 8798, 8800, 8802,
  8804, 8806, 8808, 8811, 8813, 8816)


Downloading the package
=======================
1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save
   the downloaded file.


Extracting the package
======================

Windows Vista
-------------
1.  Click Start, then click Start Search.
2.  Type tsst_ts493a_ib03.exe in the search field, then click Search
    Everywhere. This will locate the file you just downloaded.
3.  Double-click the tsst_ts493a_ib03.exe icon. You may see a dialog
    stating "A program needs your permission to continue". If you
    see this dialog, click Continue.
4.  Click Next.
5.  Click I accept the terms in the license agreement.
6.  Click Next.
7.  Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to
    C:\SWTOOLS\FIRMWARE\TSST\TS-H493A.
8.  Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard drive.
9.  Click Finish.

Windows XP
----------
1.  Click Start, select Search, then click All files and folders.
2.  Type tsst_ts493a_ib03.exe in the search field, then click Search.
    This will locate the file you just downloaded. 
3.  Double-click the tsst_ts493a_ib03.exe icon.
4.  Click Next.
5.  Click I accept the terms in the license agreement.
6.  Click Next.
7.  Ensure that "Save files in folder" is set to
    C:\SWTOOLS\FIRMWARE\TSST\TS-H493A.
8.  Click Next. The necessary files will be extracted to your hard drive.
9.  Click Finish.


Applying the package
====================
Note: This firmware upgrade requires the system to be restarted.  Exit all
applications and save your data before running the upgrade. Do not restart
or power-down the system while the upgrade is in progress.

Windows Vista
-------------
1.  Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\SWTOOLS\FIRMWARE\TSST\TS-H493A\TS-H493A_IB03.exe, then click OK. The
    firmware upgrade utility will proceed automatically.
3.  When you see the "Download OK!! Restart WINDOWS" message, click OK.
4.  The firmware upgrade will be applied when the system restarts.

Windows XP
----------
1.  Click Start, then click Run.
2.  Type C:\SWTOOLS\FIRMWARE\TSST\TS-H493A\TS-H493A_IB03.exe, then click OK. The
    firmware upgrade utility will proceed automatically.
3.  When you see the "Download OK!! Restart WINDOWS" message, click OK.
4.  The firmware upgrade will be applied when the system restarts.
