Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for IBM(R) ThinkCentre(R) 8183, 8184, 8185, 8186, 8187, 8188, 8189, 8190, 8192, 8193, 8194, 8195, 8196, 8197, 8320, 8416, 8418, 8419, 8432, 8433 Version 2AKT31A Installation README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on IBM ThinkCentre 8183, 8184, 8185, 8186, 8187, 8188, 8189, 8190, 8192, 8193, 8194, 8195, 8196, 8197, 8320, 8416, 8418, 8419, 8432, and 8433 systems. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Type 2ajy31usa.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the 2ajy31usa.exe file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the 2ajy31usa.exe icon. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement 5. Click I Agree. The installation folder should be C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\2AJY31US. 6. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?" 7. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully." 8. Click OK. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\2AJY31US\WINPHLASH.EXE. 4. Click OK. 5. Select Backup BIOS and Flash BIOS with new settings. 6. Click Flash BIOS. You will told to save your work and close all other applications. 7. Click OK. Your system will automatically shutdown and restart so that the changes will take effect. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: 2AJTxxA is the flash diskette level. 2AKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. That is, if a change is added in 01, it is also in 02, 03 etc. CHANGES for 24KTxxA/24JTxxA: 2AKT31A/2AJT31A - Fixes boot block recovery with some CD-RW drives (requires bootblock update) - Fixes boot block recovery with new revision of Teac USB floppy drive (requires bootblock update) - Adds setup question to enable or disable the front USB ports - Improves efficiency of PCI memory allocation to take up less overall address space - Fixes POST hang when PATA is Disabled and SATA is Native - Fixes 1805 POST error with certain old PCI cards 2AKT29A/2AJT29A - Fixes a problem where the CGA font is not found - Fixes a problem where POST HotKeys may not by recognized with POV systems - Fixes an ethernet failure by resetting the ethernet controller on normal (S4/S5) powerup 2AKT28A/2AJT28A - This was an internal release. Any changes will be documented in a future release. 2AKT27A/2AJT27A - Fixes a problem where Ethernet fails with POV and Serial ATA (SATA) in native mode 2AKT26A/2AJT26A - Fixes a problem where a SCSI device stalls the system - Fixes a problem where the Admin password is required when booting from a CD - Fixes a problem that occurs when performing a boot block recovery with an IDE optical device and a USB floppy (requires bootblock update) NOTE: This BIOS contains Memory Reference Code version 1.3 and GMCH BIOS Spec Update 1.4 2AKT25A/2AJT25A - Fixes intermittent failures booting from a USB floppy diskette drive - Fixes a problem where the system will not boot with 4 hard disk drives - Fixes hang that occurs with the Intel USB Wireless Ethernet adapter - Adds a new 1GB Ethernet option ROM, "Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.2.16" - Fixes intermittent SATA drive failures that occur during S3 resume 2AKT24A/2AJT24A - Fixes "Power LED not on during bootblock/Clear CMOS state" - Fixes "When restoring AC power, system always auto-power on" 2AKT23A/2AJT23A - re-release of BIOS 22A 2AKT22A/2AJT22A - Clears the keyboard buffer in function "Boot to PSA" - Fixes "System halt when install memory 3.5GB" - Fixes "Video adaptors (AGP and PCI) hang system in POST with 4GB" 2AKT21A/2AJT21A - Adds 3.2GHz string for CPU speed reporting in setup - Fixes problem of not booting to certain USB floppy drives by increasing cold seek timeout - Changes behavior of PS/2 Mouse setup question. Used to be Disabled/Enabled, automatically fixed up based on presence.
