H166171:  9086-001: HANGS UNLOADING PBXAAPI OR SHUTTING DOWN NETWARE


 SYMPTOM:

 The PCI ESCON adapter may not work properly in certain hardware
 platforms.

 Under NetWare, unloading the PBXAAPI.NLM after active
 connections were established will hang the server. This is
 noticed when the CHLDOWN.NCF is used. Also, when shutting down
 the server (i.e. DOWN and EXIT), the server will hang after
 typing the EXIT.

 Under Windows NT no problems were reported.

 PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

 - The system is one of the following IBM Netfinity servers that
   supports the Netfinity ESCON Adapter:

       a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
       a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
       a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
       a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
       a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.

 - The system is configured with a Netfinity ESCON Adapter
   p/n9086001.

 FIX:

 Download escon531.exe & escon531.txt from the following URL:

      http://www.pc.ib.com/searchfiles.html
      search on "escon531"

 Follow the instructions in the escon531.txt.

 DETAILS:

 The Firmware for the ESCON Adapter is affected.

 NOTE: It is recommended this update be applied to all ESCON
 adapters with a POST version of 5.7 or below.
