H166166: WINDOWS NT 4.0 WILL NOT INSTALL WITH 4GB OF SYSTEM MEMORY SYMPTOM: System Exception Errors during installation of Windows NT. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: - The system is a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model. - The system is configured with more than 2GB of memory. - Windows NT 4.0 is being Installed on the System. - The system's Diagnostics Pass. FIX: This is a problem with Windows NT 4.0. Check the Microsoft Website for the availability of permanent fix for this problem. The Microsoft Website is at http://www.microsoft.com WORKAROUND: 1. Remove the memory riser card from the system and remove enough memory to leave 2GB (Two Gigabytes) or less installed. 2. Reinstall the memory riser card. 3. Go into Set-up and configure the system for the new amount of installed system memory. 4. Install Windows NT 4.0 and SP4 pack or above. After Windows NT 4.0 has been fully configured and loaded (displaying the desktop); do the following: 1. Shutdown Windows NT 4.0. 2. Remove the memory riser card. 3. Reinstall all memory. 4. Reinstall the memory riser card. 5. Go into set-up and configure the system for the new amount of installed memory. NOTES: - FixPack 4 or greater should be installed before the remaining memory is added. - Not following the above steps will cause Windows 4.0 NT to crash at some point during the installation.
