H165855:  HANG OCCURS IN WINDOWS NT WITH A PLEXTOR CD-ROM TOWER


 TEXT:

 A system hang occurs in Windows NT with a Plextor CD-ROM Tower

 SYMPTOMS:

 The server experiences a system hang in Windows NT with a
 Plextor CD-ROM Tower (PT-1XS-32TS-X7) option attached when
 attempting to execute the Jukeman application (software
 application to utilize the Plextor CD-ROM tower).

 PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

 - The system is any of the following IBM servers:

      a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.
      a Netfinity 7000 server, Type 8651, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
      a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
      a Netfinity 3500 server, Type 8644, any Model.
      a Netfinity 3000 server, Type 8476, any Model.
      a PC Server 330, Type 8640, any Model.
      a PC Server 325, Type 8639, any Model.

 - The system is configured with one or more of the following
 options:

      a Planar with on-board ServeRAID, (e.g. 330 & 5500)
      a PC ServeRAID SCSI Adapter, Option p/n70G8489
      a ServeRAID II Ultra SCSI Adapter, Option p/n76H3584
      a Netfinity ServeRAID-3H Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option
 p/n01K7207
      a Netfinity ServeRAID-3L Ultra2 SCSI Adapter, Option
 p/n01K7364

 - The system's Diagnostics Pass.

 - The Windows NT Device Driver for the ServeRAID Adapter is
 affected.

 WORKAROUND:

 Until the official ipsraidn.sys driver is released to the web
 there is an interim ipsraidn.sys driver available which fixes
 this problem.  The ipsraidn.sys file is located in the
 \winnt\system32\drivers directory of your server. Please
 replace your current ipsraidn.sys driver with this interim
 ipsraidn.sys driver and reboot the server.

 This driver is: ipsraidn.sys (36496 bytes, created 1/29/99,

 DETAILS:

 There will be a new release of the IBM ServeRAID device driver
 diskette that will contain a new Windows NT device driver which
 will fix this problem.  This retain tip will be updated when
 the new official driver is released.
