H165049: SSA RAID ADAPTER RESTRICTED TO RAID 5 WITH OVER 2GB OF RAM SYMPTOM: System crash (including NT bluescreen or NetWare abend), system hang, garbled video, other unpredictable results. PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: - The system is any PC Server, Netfinity Server, or OEM Intel Server which supports SSA. - The system is configured with one or more of the following SSA adapters: - Option P/N 32H3811, FC4011, or FRU 32H3811. - Option P/N 96H9835, FC4012, or FRU 02L7644. - The system uses one or more of the following capabilities of the SSA adapters: - JBOD (single disks), RAID 0, and/or RAID 1 on Option P/N 32H3811, FC4011, or FRU 32H3811. - JBOD and/or RAID 1 on Option P/N 96H9835, FC4012, or FRU 02L7644. - The system has more than 2GB of supported RAM installed. Systems which currently support both SSA and more than 2 GB of RAM include: - IBM Netfinity 7000 and Netfinity 7000 M10 - Compaq ProLiant 5000 and ProLiant 6000 - HP NetServer LX Pro and LXr Pro (note: Support of SSA on non-IBM hosts requires Windows NT) - The system is using one of the following Network Operating Systems: - Windows NT - Novell NetWare and intraNetWare - OS/2 - Diagnostics pass. FIX: This restriction will be removed in a future SSA RAID adapter. WORKAROUND: - For the IBM SSA RAID Adapter for PC Servers (32H3811 / FC4011 / FRU 32H3811), restrict use to RAID 5 or reduce server memory to 2 GB. - For the IBM SSA RAID Cluster Adapter (96H9835 / FC4012 / FRU 02L7644), reduce server memory to 2 GB. DETAILS: A 2 GB memory limit shall be observed on all servers with the IBM SSA RAID Adapter for PC Servers (except RAID 5 use) or IBM SSA RAID Cluster Adapter installed. On server systems with greater than 2 GB of memory installed, the use of either: 1) JBOD (single disks), RAID 0, or RAID 1 on the SSA RAID Adapter for PC Servers, -- or -- 2) JBOD or RAID 1 on the SSA RAID Cluster Adapter will cause unpredictable results and is not supported by IBM.
