H164971: ECA020: POWER TERMINATOR FOR BACKPLANES IN 3518 ENCLOSURE PURPOSE: This ECA provides for the installation of a Power Termination Plug on backplanes in a IBM PC Server Enterprise Expansion Enclosure. This ECA is applicable if the configuration of the 3518 holds true to the "Physical Check" section of this document. This ECA will expire December 30, 2004 FEATURES: Type, Machines Affected Model, With and/or Feature/Device B/M to be Service System Stage B/M Description Installed Hours Hours USA: 3518 B/M0000000 TYPE 3518 MODEL 001 B/M0000000 00.8 00.3 EMEA: TYPE 3518 MODEL_001 TRAVEL PER SITE: 0.8HR SERVICE PER SYSTEM: 1.0HR PHYSICAL CHECK: All of the following must be true for this ECA to apply: - The System is a PC Server Enterprise Expansion Enclosure Type 3518 Model 001. - One or more Hot-Swap backplanes located in the 3518 are connected to a bulkhead connector without the use of a SCSI Repeater resulting in a direct SCSI connection to the Host Bus SCSI Adapter / Controller located in the Server the 3518 is connected to. - One or more Hot-Swap backplanes in the 3518 have only one attached SCSI Cable. PREREQUISITES: NONE COMPANION: None CONCURRENT: None DETAIL: Install a SCSI Power Terminator FRU p/n03K9283 on the exit cable connector on the Hot-Swap backplane(s) that has ONLY one attached SCSI Cable. 1- Power OFF the 3518 Enclosure and the Attached Server. 2- Open the front Cover faceplate of the 3518 enclosure. 3- Locate the black latch on the left side and lift it from the bottom. Pull the entire front cover off starting working from the top to the bottom. 4- Open the side access panel door. 5- Remove the two screws (shown by stars below). This will release the front half of the fan assembly. Lift the entire fan assembly approximately 1/2 inch to release from slots on the backside. _____________ | | | | | *|_| | | | | | Front | | | | | *|_| | | | | |__| ______| ______|______| 6- Carefully rotate the fan assembly towards the back of the enclosure, taking care to avoid stressing the fan power cables. 7- Locate the exit cable connector at the far end of the backplane (opposite end from jumpers) as depicted below. Push it firmly but gently. 9- Reinstall the fan assembly making certain to seat the back side properly into the slots. 10-Secure the front side of the fan assembly with the original 2 screws. 11-Close the side door. 12-Reinstall the front cover being sure to secure the black latch on the left side. 13- Power up the 3518 Enclosure. 14- Power up the Server.
