H164352: SERVER MAY HANG WITH 2+ TOKEN RING / SMP / INTRANETWARE SYMPTOM: The System hangs during normal operations as indicated by the following: - A lack of response from the Keyboard - The "Client" disconnects from the Server PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS: All of the following must be true for this TIP to apply: - The System is any PC Server or Netfinity server that supports SMP and is properly configured with two (2) or more Token Ring Adapters and two (2) or more Processors. - The Token Ring Adapters can be any brand Manufacturer model(s) that are supported on the System. Refer to the "Server Proven Compatibility" Matrices located on the IBM Website at the following URL: http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/compat/machines - Select the specific system from the "Current" or "Older Model" selection boxes - Select "Ethernet and Token Ring Adapters" - The System is running Novell IntraNetWare 4.11 using the latest appropriate drivers for each installed Token Ring Adapter. - System Diagnostics pass. - Source Routing is enabled on all the installed Token Ring Adapters. - The Netware Loadable Module ROUTE.NLM is less than version 4.15 (as determined by unloading ROUTE then loading ROUTE at the NetWare Console prompt) FIX: Replace ROUTE.NLM with version V4.15 or later by contacting Novell Technical Support WEB Site at the following URL: http://www.novell.com or by calling Phone: (800) 858-4000 DETAIL: ROUTE.NLM that ships with Novell IntraNetWare 4.11 is not SMP (Symmetrical Multi-Processor) safe. It is not protected from more than one processor simultaneously allocating route entries for each Token Ring Adapter. ROUTE.NLM version V4.15 or higher is SMP safe.
