It includes added support for IBM systems and fixes for existing problems. All future patches will be cumulative. There is no version checking done so you must be sure to install this patch only on RDM 3.2. 1.1 Enhancements in Patch 1 - Updated Advanced Service Management drivers. 1.2 Fixes in Patch 1 - New FDISK and FORMAT programs to fix intermittent problem with using larger than 8gb drives with Power Restore. - Fixed problem with scanning of newer Thinkpads with the latest Asset ID chipset. - Update to GETPXE to ensure correct handling of all headers. - Update to PXE services for support of multiple devices using network Option 60. ______________________________________________________________________ 2.0 Installation and Uninstallation Instructions If an RDM 3.2 Server is upgraded with this Patch, then any RDM Console or RDM Sharepoint must also be upgraded with this Patch. Similarly, a patched Console or Sharepoint should not be used with an unpatched RDM 3.2 Server. Failure to upgrade all RDM components concurrently could result in functional problems or data loss. IMPORTANT NOTE: This patch is for the IBM only version of RDM 3.2. Do not attempt to use this in conjunction with any other RDM versions. 2.1 Installation method: 1. Specify a temporary directory to extract files to. 2. Stop the RDM PXE Service. 3. There will both an RDM tree and an IBMTCPIP tree. Copy each of these directories to their respective installed locations for RDM 3.2 and overwrite any files that may exist. The default locations are C:\IBMTCPIP and C:\RDM. 4. After all files are copied, run: C:\IBMTCPIP\images\mkimages.bat If you have installed your TCPIP directory elsewhere you will need to change the path for the above command appropriately. 5. Start the RDM PXE Service. 2.2 Uninstallation of RDM 3.2 Patch 1: If you would like to return to your original RDM 3.2 install state then you will need to remove all the files replaced by RDM 3.2 Patch 1 and then do a repair install of RDM 3.2. In order to assist in this process, the batch file RemovePatch1.bat, located in your RDM directory will automate the remove of the files replaced. Before running this batch file you will need to manually stop the RDM PXE Service. If you are not using the default RDM install directories then you will need to first edit the following two lines in the file to reflect your correct install paths: set RDM_DIR=c:\rdm set IBMTCPIP_DIR=c:\ibmtcpip 2.3 Special note for users of systems with LSI SCSI: During unattended install of Windows 2000, on some systems with LSI SCSI you may experience timeouts in starting the IBM Automated Server Restart Executable or SYMMPI1 drivers. To avoid these errors, you must integrate Service Pack 2 or higher with your Windows 2000 image. Please see the Chapter 6 of the "Remote Deployment Manager 3.1.01 User's Guide" for more details on how to integrate a Windows Service Pack. ______________________________________________________________________ 3.0 Web Sites and Support 3.1 IBM Remote Deployment Manager Website: http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/eserver/xseries/systems_management/rdm.html 3.2 IBM Remote Deployment Manager 3.2 Publications: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-43084.html 3.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to one of the following: UM Electronic Support: eMail - http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/MIGR-4Z7HJX.html Forum - http://www7.pc.ibm.com/~UMS/ ______________________________________________________________________ 4.0 Trademarks and Disclaimer IBM, the IBM logo, HelpCenter, IntelliStation, LANClient Control Manager, Netfinity, Netfinity Director, Netfinity Manager, OS/2, OS/390, OS/400, PC 300, PowerPC, Remote Deployment Manager, RS/6000, S/390, ScrollPoint, ServeRAID, System Migration Assistant, ThinkPad, Tivoli, TrackPoint, UltraBay, Ultrastar, UM Services, ViaVoice, Wake on LAN, and WorkPad are trademarks or registered trademarks of International Business Machines Corporation in the United States and/or other countries.
