Installing UnixWare 7.1.3/Open Unix 8 with an Ultra320 SCSI Controller 1) Install the Ultra320 adapter and power on your system. 2) Boot from the UnixWare/Open UNIX CDROM. 3) Type in your License Number and Code as prompted and press F10. 4) Insert the Adaptec UnixWare/Open UNIX driver disk. 5) Select "Install HBA diskette" and press F10. 6) Select "Proceed with installation" and press F10. 7) The driver is copied into the install at this point. Continue installing the operating system as normal. 3.2. Installing the Driver when UnixWare 7.1.3/Open UNIX 8 is Already Installed 1) Insert the Adaptec UnixWare/Open UNIX driver disk into the floppy drive. 2) Type in: pkgadd -d /dev/rdsk/f03ht and press enter. Wait for the post install script to finish installing the device driver. 3) Make sure to reboot the system by issuing the command "init 6". After the system reboots, the procedure is then done. 3.3. Removing the Driver From UnixWare 7.1.3/Open UNIX 8 1) Type in the following line and press enter to remove the device driver. pkgrm adpu320 2) Then make sure to reboot the system by issuing the command "init 6" After system reboots, the procedure is then done. 4.0 Command Line Options ------------------------ WARNING: ALTERING OR ADDING THESE DRIVER PARAMETERS INCORRECTLY CAN RENDER YOUR SYSTEM INOPERABLE. USE THEM WITH CAUTION. Edit the file "space.c" in the directory /etc/conf/pack.d/adpu320 in order to change the following commands: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Option: adpu320_cmdque_enable=[value] Definition: Enables/disables tagged command queuing for all drives. Possible Values: 0 (off), 1 (on) Default Value: 1 (on) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Option: adpu320_U320_read_streaming=[value] Definition: Enables/disables read streaming negotiation for all drives. Possible Values: 0 (off), 1 (on) Default Value: 0 (off) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Option: adpu320_num_quecmds=[value] Definition: Sets the limit on the number of commands which can be delivered to a given target. Possible Values: 2-128 Default Value: 32 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 5.0 Additional Notes -------------------- 5.1. Known/Unresolved Issues 5.1.1. Panasonic SCSI CD-ROM Drive not supported: Installation of OU8 locks up with "Device protocol error [c1007002] (0/6/0)" when using the Panasonic CD-ROM drive 606B (24x). 5.1.2. Ultra320 SCSI Controller Must Negotiate Slower with a Kingston Hard Disk Enclosure: In order for a Kingston hard disk enclosure to function properly with an Ultra320 SCSI controller, the negotiation speed in SCSISelect must be set to 10MB/second. 5.2. Operating System or Technology Limitations 5.2.1. Neither UnixWare 7.1.3 nor Open UNIX 8 supports ACPI Power Management. 5.2.2. Floppy disk controller causes UnixWare 7.1.x to fail install: During a UnixWare 7.1.3 installation, the user may see the message "Warning:FDC unxpected state" when the install is reading the Adaptec ADPU320 driver. This is an issue with an onboard Intel floppy disk controller and is not related to any Adaptec product. There is no known fix at this time. 5.2.3. No support for CD changer device: UnixWare 7.x and Open UNIX 8.x does not currently support CD changer devices. 5.2.4. Ultra320 hard disk drive support Adaptec only supports Ultra320 hard drives that have the latest firmware available. Please check with your hard drive manufacturer to ensure you have the latest version. 6.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number -------------------------------------- 6.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support 6.2 IBM Marketing Netfinity Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/netfinity 6.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: 1-800-772-2227 http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QYL.html. 7.0 Trademarks and Notices -------------------------- 7.1 IBM and the e(logo) are registered trademarks of International Business Machines Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both. 7.2 This software contains the valuable trade secrets of Adaptec or its licensors.
