Change History 11/18/2004: GA2 Update 1 Release (FW Version: FW04430130 or 2b304_430, Image Name: JS2FW443A.IMG) Provides a code fix for the "update -c" commit function. Without this update, a customer may experience a fail when committing a Firmware image from the TEMP to PERM side. 10/29/2004: GA2 Release (FW Version: FW04390130 or 2b304_390, Image Name: JS2FW439A.IMG) Provides support for the new JS20+ blade and a fix for Fibre Channel boot support. Please note, at a minimum, Version v0104030301 (release date: 2004/10/18) of Fibre Channel adapter firmware is required for Fibre Channel boot support. Please refer to item 8 in this README for additional information on the Fibre Channel boot support fix. 08/27/2004: GA1 Update 2 Release (FW Version: FW04310120 or 2b204_310, Image Name: JS1FW430C.IMG) Provides support for AIX 5.2H and Fibre Channel Boot with the IBM eServer Blade Center JS20 Fibre Channel Expansion Card (Option PN 73P6112). 06/24/2004: GA1 Update 1 Release (FW Version: bFW0419000, Image Name: JS1FW419A.IMG) Included fixes and changes for: E21C boot error, VPD, Dimm LED False indicator, and minor error logging improvements. 06/04/2004: Initial GA1 Release (FW Version: bFW4013000, Image Name: JS1FW408F.IMG) 2. Please refer to the IBM Support Web Site at http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ for the current versions of JS20 product documentation and any late breaking product news. Supported Blade Center and / or JS20 Blade code updates (in addition to this Firmware) can also be downloaded from the IBM web site. 3. The following documents provide information on the JS20 Blade Product: - Blade Center JS20 Type 8842 Installation and User's Guide - Technical Update (August 2004) - IBM eServer BladeCenter JS20 - BladeCenter JS20 Type 8842 Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide The Technical Update provides information on fibre channel boot support provided with GA1 Update 2. 4. Version 1.0 BQ8T21A of the Integrated Systems Management Processor (i.e. H8 Service Processor) should be installed and used with this version of Firmware (2b304_430 or FW04430130). Unpredictable results may be experienced if a different version of the H8 service processor is installed. This version of the SP is available from the IBM Support Web Site (refer to item 2). 5. Firmware installation, flash update, commit, recovery and verification instructions are defined in Chapter 7 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual. - Linux customers should refer to the "Update and manage system flash using Linux service aids" section for detail procedures / steps to be performed. - AIX customers should refer to the "Update and manage system flash using AIX diagnostics" section for detail procedures / steps to be performed. 6. Firmware version numbers for this release can be displayed from the Management Module, with a Linux Operating System command and from the AIX Diagnostics GUI. - The FW version number that will be displayed by the Management Module under the BIOS category is 2b304_430. - The FW version number that will be returned by a Linux OS command is FW04430103. - The FW version number that will be displayed by the AIX Diagnostic GUI is 2b304_430. Please refer to the preceding item #5 for documentation pointers on how to perform Linux and AIX steps to determine FW version information. 7. If you are migrating from the GA1 Update 1 version of Firmware (version bFW0419000, version date 05/04/2004) to the this GA2 release with the Linux OS, error code 25A80001 will be displayed during reboot after the new FW image is flashed (refer to the preceding item 5). This message code is informational. It indicates that NVRAM has been reinitialized when the new version of firmware was installed. This is expected behavior. This is not an error. 8. If you are booting with the IBM eServer Blade Center JS20 Fibre Channel Expansion Card (Option PN 73P6112), you must apply the GA2 (FW Version: FW04390130 or 2b304_390, Dated: 10/29/2004) or later version of firmware to always see this device as a bootable device in the setup mini-menu screen (setup-fcp-disk). With the previous version of firmware, this device was sometimes not highlighted as a bootable device. Please note, to successfully perform the Fibre Channel boot process, you must also install version v0104030301 (release date: 2004/10/18) of the Fibre Channel Expansion Card Firmware on the adapter card. At a minimum, this version of adapter firmware is a co-requirement for boot support. Please refer to the IBM Support Web Site at http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ for this version or any later version of firmware for this adapter. 9.
