Intermittent/Repeat Failure Data Capture/Q&A 1. Frequency? A) Hourly, daily, weekly, monthly? B) Same time of day/week? C) Every time a certain application starts/runs/stops? (tape backup, tasks scheduled, etc.) D) How is system recovered? E) When did the problem first occur? Since day one? 1. If not since day 1, what has changed? 2. Do errors point to a specific subsystem, i.e. memory, HDD, etc? A) Are any Light Path Diagnostic LEDs on? B) If specific component, check Serverproven, Infotips, etc. C) If possible, remove component and monitor system. D) Have any parts been replaced? 1. Which ones, how many times, when? E) Engage next level of support before replacing parts. 3. Error/event logs A) Capture Egatherer, Service Processor, Dumplogs. (and Raidevt.log from new version of Egatherer) B) If failure is a blue screen, capture first 5 lines of error message at top of screen. (i.e. Stop 0x00000AE, etc.) C) Hang? Windows, Netware, Linux, SCO, Unixware. 1. How was system loaded? (Ghost, Image, etc.)
