IBM Director eFix APAR IC33168 IBM Director Version 3.1 Installation README file CONTENTS ______________________________________________________________________ 1.0 Overview 2.0 Change History 3.0 Installation Instructions 4.0 Configuration Information 5.0 Unattended Mode 6.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number 7.0 Trademarks and Notices 8.0 Disclaimer 1.0 Overview ______________________________________________________________________ 1.2 Issues Addressed: This is a combined eFix that includes the following fixes: IC32736: After Director Server version 3.1 is installed/upgraded on a system which version 2.2 or 2.21 is already present, the Event Action Plan Builder fails. Specifically, if a user tries to create a simple event filter, a communication error message appears and the console must be closed. IC32925: Setting the lease dates to certain valid months/days/years for Japanese systems will in some cases produce the following error message: "A lease end date must be after the start date" even if the entered data is valid. This problem stems from how the Japanese JRE handles Gregorian calendar dates. IC32926: In IBM Director Agent 3.1 the AssetID Configuration Task under the web interface does not save information entered to the AssetID EEPROM. For example, if a lease date is entered and the changes are applied, upon exiting and then reentering the web interface, the new data is not preserved. IC33043: In IBM Director 3.1, System Health was displaying blank if user name of a system starts with a digit or the user name contains invalid characters like &,*,%,-. None of the system functions were getting displayed under system health. IC32799: Within several dialogue boxes in Japanese IBM Director Server 3.1 the Yes button is not translated correctly. IC32829: On IBM eServer XSeries model 8668 and 8669 without the Remote Supervisor Adapter installed when the IBM Automatic Server Restart Service version 4.03, which is part of the IBM Advanced System Management Device Driver version 2.03, is installed with IBM Director 3.1 the system may unexpectedly reboot after several hours of uninterrupted operation. IC32839: When IBM Director 3.1 is installed on either an IBM eServer XSeries model 8668 or 8669 without the Remote Supervisor Adapter installed, several hours of continuous operation may cause some of the hardware sensors to become unresponsive. IC32846: If the IBM Automatic Server Restart Service is installed before installing IBM Director 3.1 on an IBM eServer XSeries model 8668 or 8669 without the Remote Supervisor Adapter installed the following Windows Event Viewer errors will be logged: DCOM got error "The dependency service or group failed to start. "attempting to start the service AOLAgent with arguments "-Service" in order to run the server The NetAlrt service depends on the following nonexistent service: I2C Alert on LAN 2 Agent service depends on the NetAlert service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion. IC32847: On an IBM eServer XSeries model 8668 or 8669 with one CPU and without the Remote Supervisor Adapter installed IBM Director will indicate Voltage Sensor #6 is below it's threshold. This error is meaningless since Voltage Sensor #6 is the VRM for the nonexistent second processor. IC32848: The IBM Director 3.1 ServeRAID Server Extension will not create alerts if a Director Server has not "discovered" the Director Agent. To conserve resources in a stand alone mode, the Agent does not become fully active until it has been discovered by a Director Server. If the Director Agent is used in a stand alone configuration the ServeRAID Server Extension will not start and therefore not produce alerts. IC32941: A domain user with local administrator privileges on Windows 2000 or higher can install Director 3.1 but is not allowed to uninstall it. When attempting to uninstall the product a Window will appear with the following error message: "You must have administrative rights to uninstall. Uninstall will now exit" IC33060: SNMP traps sent by Director Agent to CA UniCenter had variable bindings that were misinterpreted by UniCenter for Health and RAID objects. IC33061: The IDA SNMP Agent is slow to respond to SNMP GET when running on system with the onboard Advanced Systems Management Processor. SNMP Management applications performing the GET may timeout due to the slow response. Under CA UniCenter this may produce objects that show error for environment monitors. IC32931: After installing Director Agent 3.1 with the Management Processor Assistant Server Extension 3.1, the following types of netfinity.system.rps error messages are incorrectly reported to the IBM Director Server: "Power redundancy has been restored" "exceeded maximum current" "Loss of redundancy" IC32932: An IBM Director 3.1 Alphanumeric Page Event Action Plan is not able to communicate properly with a PCI V.90 modem. Any attempt to send an alphanumeric page through a PCI modem will fail. External modems connected through a serial port work properly. IC32957: In the Director 3.1 Management Processor Assitant Server Extension, under the General Settings view the O/S, Loader Timeout, and Power Off Delay fields are blank. IC32816: On IBM Point Of Sale models 4840 and 4835 running Microsoft Windows 9X, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, and Windows XP the system will hang during shutdown if IBM Director 3.1 is installed. IC32742: Hardware sensor support for fan, temperature, voltage, and chassis intrusion staus under IBM Director 3.1. 2.0 Change History
