This RPM file will build and install the IBM Automatic Server Restart (ASR) IPMI application on specific IBM servers that contain an IPMI-compliant Baseboard Management Controller (BMC). Please consult IBM's support website (below) to determine if this ASR software is supported on your server. 1.2 Limitations Unsupported third-party IPMI drivers or ASR software will interfere with the operation of this ASR software package. 1.3 Enhancements - none 1.4. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - none 1.5 Dependencies: Before installing this RPM, please make sure your server has the correct IPMI device driver installed and the correct IBM Mapping Layer Software installed before attempting to install this ASR package. Please consult IBM's support website (below) to determine which IPMI driver and Mapping Layer software to install on your server. This RPM will build a 32-bit ASR-IPMI application on x86 and x86_64 kernels. The system that the source rpm file is to be run on must have Linux development/build capability and be properly configured for your hardware. 2.0 Installation and setup instructions ______________________________________ 2.1 Installing this rpm _________________________ Read the Dependencies section (above) before installing this RPM. If this is an upgrade to an existing IBM ASR-IPMI application, the previously installed ASR-IPMI application must first be removed. See section 2.2 below. Do not try to upgrade this ASR-IPMI application rpm with the upgrade (-U) switch. To install the rpm issue the following commands: rpmbuild --rebuild ibmipmiasr-1.xx-2.src.rpm cd /usr/src/[PACKAGE DIR]/RPMS/[ARCH] rpm -ivh ibmipmiasr-1.xx-2.[ARCH].rpm where xx is the version of the rpm that you are installing, [PACKAGE DIR] is the distribution-specific name of the RPM build directory (usually "redhat" or "packages"), and [ARCH] is the architecture of the kernel in use ( i386, i586 or x86_64). For example, to install the rpm on an x86_64 SuSE OS, issue the following commands: rpmbuild --rebuild ibmipmiasr-1.xx-2.src.rpm cd /usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64 rpm -ivh ibmipmiasr-1.xx-2.x86_64.rpm NOTE: After the installation is complete, please check the file /var/log/messsage. This ASR application should work properly if you see the message like "..IBM IPMI ASR application loaded" in the /var/log/message file. 2.2 Un-installing the ibmipmiasr RPM _____________________________________ Depending upon your system's configuration, you may see messages about missing files when running the "rpm -e" commands. You may safely ignore those messages. Type the following command at a shell prompt to remove the old software source and binaries: rpm -e ibmipmiasr 2.3 Utility Programs _____________________________________ There are two useful utility programs installed by the RPM, but you must have root privilege to run these utilities. ibmipmiasrup is a small script that loads ibmipmiasr.o. Note that this module will not load if your system does not have the supported hardware. ibmasrdown unloads the modules. 3.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number _________________________________________ 3.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/support/.
