It manages the Fibre Channel Host Bus adapters on these host servers that are connected to FAStT/DS4000 Storage Subsystems. · QLogic SANSurfer Agent: This software is required on the Windows servers where the FC Host Bus adapters reside. · QLogic SANSurfer NetWare Agent: This software is required on Novell NetWare servers where the Host BUS adapters reside. This software is installed from an W2K/WS2003/XP client system connected to the Novell system. . Wrap Connector and Coupler The IBM FAStT Host Bus Adapters (2200 and above) support Full Duplex mode which enables loop back capability. To assist you in isolating HBA loop problems, a wrap connector/coupler assembly P/N 75G2725 can be obtained from Mechanicsburg or by contacting IBM Level 2 Support. For the 23xx a wrap plug P/N 11P3847 and coupler P/N 05N6766 are included in the DS4000 Storage Subsystem shipping box. You can also obtain them from Mechanicsburg as a kit (P/N 24P0950). Note: Do not use any other wrap connector such as those supplied with Switches (wrap connectors P/N 16G5609 or 86F1180). They are not compatible with the adapters and will give erroneous results. ==================================================================== 4.0 CONFIGURATION ----------------- The configurations that SANSurfer supports can be divided into two types: Stand-alone and Networked. 4.1 STAND-ALONE --------------- If you will manage the Host Bus adapter installed in a stand-alone system, install the SANSurfer GUI and Agent (Windows Platform). 4.2 NETWORKED ------------- If you will manage the Host Bus adapter residing in a remote system in a Windows environment, install the SANSurfer GUI on a management system. In this case, only the QLogic SANsurfer Windows 2000/Server 2003 agent needs to be installed in the remote system. Note that a management system may contain HBAs and therefore the agent should also be installed on that system. If the remote system is a NetWare server, only the QLogic SANsurfer Novell NetWare Agent needs to be installed on the NetWare server. Please refer to the NetWare Requirements section for more details. ==================================================================== 5.0 REQUIREMENTS ----------------- 5.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS · IBM FAStT/DS4000 Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters. · Single or Multi-processor Server or Workstation. · Pentium III 450MHz MHz or better, 2048MB RAM,and a minimum 200MB disk space. 5.2 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS OS · Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, or Professional . NOTE 1: Remember the drive letter must be mapped to the root of the NetWare "SYS" Volume. 5. Refer to the online help for information on how to use different features of the SANSurfer program. ==================================================================== 7.0 RUNNING SANSurfer ---------------------- Once the application has been installed, launch it. The procedure is OS dependent. Note: The default SANSurfer password is "config". Make sure you change this password after installation to ensure that security is not compromised. To enter a new Password you must have Administrative Privileges. You cannot perform management functions and NVSRAM\Flash modification unless you set a Password for SANSurfer. If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the systems where you are running the SANSurfer GUI and/or the QLremote agent. Add the host name to IP mapping manually. Edit the file /etc/hosts. For Server 2003\W2K the location of the local host file is: :\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts If NW6.0 is installed without IPX selected, the server will not assign a SERVERID number. Be sure to then add this line to the autoexec.ncf file. Add the following line to the Autoexec.ncf after the line for File Server Name: SERVERID 1234567 (enter your own server id number. By default this is a 7 digit number.) 1. Click on the QLogic SANSurfer icon on the Desktop or Click on Start-->Programs-->QLogic SANSurfer-->FAST MSJ 2. For NetWare make sure the agent on the NetWare Server is started. This can be done by using two methods: 1) The default is to manually load the agent. Type the following at the NetWare prompt: RPCSTART qlremote 2) The Agent was automatically added to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file but rem'd out. · If you want the agent to start automatically, edit the AUTOEXEC.NCF to clear the REM for RPCSTART and QLREMOTE. · Restart the NetWare server. The Agent and its components will automatically be loaded. Please refer to the online help file for more information. To view the online help, go to Help and "Set Browser Location" to match the location where your preferred browser is located. SANSurfer supports Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or greater) or Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). You may now browse the Help file by selecting "Browse Contents". ==================================================================== 8.0 Uninstalling SANSurfer ---------------------------- 1. Be sure to exit the SANSurfer application before you uninstall SANSurfer. 2. Uninstall the NetWare agent from the Novell NetWare server "SYS" volume that is mapped to the Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 or XP that the QLogic SANsurfer program is installed. 3. SANSurfer Uninstaller for Windows OS From a Windows 2000/Server 2003/XP server that the QLogic SANsurfer program is installed, click Start -> Programs-->QLogic SANSurfer-->SANSurfer Uninstaller. ==================================================================== 9.0 LIMITATIONS ----------------- . The DS4000 storage products do not support the use of SANSurfer to configure failover and failback paths or IO load balancing for the DS4000 storage subsystem logical drives (LUNs) using the QLogic failover version (QLDirect) of the FC HBA device driver in Microsoft Windows operating system (OS) environments. IBM ONLY SUPPORTS THE USE OF DS4000 RDAC MULTIPATH DRIVER IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NON-FAILOVER VERSION OF THE IBM DS4000 FC HBA DEVICE DRIVER IN MICROSOFT WINDOWS OS ENVIRONMENTS. . The DS4000 storage products do not support the use of SANSurfer to configure failover and failback paths or IO load balancing for the DS4000 storage subsystem logical drives (LUNs) using the IBM DS4000 failover version of the FC HBA device driver in NetWare operating system environments. IBM ONLY SUPPORTS THE USE OF NOVELL NETWARE NATIVE MULTIPATH DRIVER DRIVER IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE NON-FAILOVER VERSION OF THE IBM DS4000 FC HBA DEVICE DRIVER IN NETWARE OS ENVIRONMENTS. . The DS4000 storage products do not support the use of LUN masking or HBA configuration wizard/functions. In addition, The DS4000 storage products also do not support non-Fibre Channel HBA functions like QLogic SANSwitch or iSCSI HBA functions. . QLogic SANSurfer program (aka. IBM FAStT MSJ) program must not be left installed in the X64 servers with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 - x64 edition installed while it is running IOs to DS4000 storage subsystems. Install the program if you need to perform FC HBA updates or diagnostics and uninstall it as soon as you are done. . There is not an IA-64 version of the QLogic SANsurfer (aka. FAStT_MSJ) for Windows Server 2003. Use the 32-bit version of the FAStT Management Suite Java for the Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition. However, it should be uninstall once the diagnostic is completed. It could cause the server to bluescreen in heavy IO loads. The version of SANSurfer will not be able to download an EFI driver image to the IBM FC2 or FC2-133 FC HBAs. You must boot to the EFI shell and follow the instructions in the EFI driver README to download an EFI driver to the HBA. For the IBM FC4Gbps FC HBAs, the multiboot BIOS image, which includes the EFI driver, can be downloaded using the QLogic SANsurfer program. · Device \ Port Configuration for fail-over capability is not supported for WS2003, W2K, NT and NetWare. IBM Storage Manager is used for this purpose. · For Windows 2000 systems with FAStT HBAs ensure the following driver parameters are set in the registry: Portname=1 Pseudo=2 Driver Parameters can be verified or changed using regedit. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services-> ql2xxx->Parameters->Device · If multiple NICs (Network Interface Cards) are present in the system, the SANSurfer client will broadcast to the first IP address subnet based on the binding order. Therefore, ensure that the NIC for the local subnet is first in the binding order. If this is not done, the diagnostics may not run properly and remote connection may not occur. · The SANSurfer application tries to help in not allowing the user to connect to the same host more than once (causes issues with policies and wasted system resources). This adds the requirement that all host IP address MUST resolve to a host name to allow connection to complete. · If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the systems where you are running the SANSurfer GUI and the QLremote agent. Add the host name to IP mapping manually. Edit the file /etc/hosts. For W2K\NT the location of the local host file is: \system32\drivers\etc\hosts · If NW6.0 is installed without IPX selected, the server will not assign a SERVERID number. Be sure to then add this line to the autoexec.ncf file. Add the following line to the Autoexec.ncf after the line for File Server Name: SERVERID 1234567 (enter your own server id number. By default this is a 7 digit number.) · Updating the Flash BIOS is not supported for NetWare. · When a FAStT Fibre Channel HBA (QL2200 or 2300) is connected to the Fabric (switch), Loopback test is disabled since the adapter is in a point to point mode. Unplugging the cable from the Fabric and inserting a wrap connector at the end of the cable (or at the adapter) will enable loopback test. However, if the HBA IP Network Driver is running on the system, the adapter will remain in point to point mode. · The SANSurfer online web help can only be viewed by Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or greater) or Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). · The File Selectors in SANSurfer at times does not respond to double click selection of folders. The work around for now is to select the folder and click the Open button to the right to traverse the directory or open a specific file. · NetWare requires that LUNs be present to run the diagnostics. If you cannot create LUNs due to hardware or software problems, load the NetWare driver with the /LUNZERO parameter. This will allow you to run the Read/Write Buffer diagnostics. When the problem is resolved, reload the driver without the /LUNZERO parameter. · In NetWare, if a device fails during the Read/Write Buffer diagnostics and a subsequent configuration refresh occurs, the device will be dropped from the respective HBA tree. · When an online device fails and goes offline and a subsequent configuration refresh occurs, the loop id for that device does not reflect the original ID since the device is in effect no longer in the loop (may show x100 or xff). · When a failure occurs during Diagnostics (Loopback test and Read/Write Buffer test) and the test is restarted immediately, MSJ may request whether or not you want to refresh the configuration. Select NO to continue the test. If YES is selected the Host may be disconnected with the following message: "Unable to connect to the Host: {Host Name / IP address}. The Host is currently in diagnostics mode, try again later." To recover, you need to stop and restart the agent "qlremote" in the Windows Services dialog (W2K right click on My Computer -->Manage--> Services--> QLogic Management Suite Java Agent. NT use Control Panel-- >Services. NetWare, Unload qlremote and reload it). · Automatic application of Configuration Changes does not function when applied to a Netfinity FC Host Bus Adapter (2100). Click Refresh to detect configuration changes. ==================================================================== 10.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number ---------------------------------------- 10.1 IBM System Storage™ Disk Storage Systems Technical Support web site: http://www.ibm.com/servers/storage/support/disk/ 10.2 IBM System Storage™ Marketing Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/servers/storage/disk 10.3 You can receive hardware service through IBM Services or through your IBM reseller, if your reseller is authorized by IBM to provide warranty service.
