This RPM file will build and install the RSAII daemon and/or support software for the IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter II. 1.2 Limitations - none 1.3 Enhancements - none 1.4. Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the update: - none 1.5 Dependencies: - The ibmusbasm rpm requires the libusb and libusb-devel packages to be installed. If your distribution does not include/install the 2 packages please reference Section 3 for libusb installation instructions. - If you have GCC compiler version 2.96, you should update it to version 3.xx. - Make sure the RSA II is configured for "Linux OS" before installing the RSA II software. Also, some xSeries servers require the mini USB cable to be connected between the RSA II and a USB port on the server. If these steps are not performed then the RSA II software installation may fail. Refer to the RSA II Installation Guide and RSA II User's Guide for additional information. - The system that the source rpm file is to be run on must have Linux development/build capability and be properly configured for your hardware. You should also have the 32-bit compatibility package/tools installed as well. 2.0 Installation and setup instructions ______________________________________ 2.1 Installing this rpm _________________________ If this is an upgrade to an existing RSA II daemon, the previously installed RSA II daemon must be removed. See section 2.3 below. Do not try to upgrade the rpm with the upgrade (-U) switch. To install the RPM execute the following commands: 1: rpmbuild --rebuild ibmusbasm64-1.XX.src.rpm 2: cd /usr/src/packages/RPMS/x86_64 ( For Redhat: cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/x86_64 ) 3: rpm -ivh ibmusbasm64-1.XX.x86_64.rpm 2.2 Un-installing the ibmusbasm RPM _____________________________________ Depending upon your system's configuration, you may see messages about missing files when running the "rpm -e" commands. You may safely ignore those messages. Type the following commands at a shell prompt to remove the old source and binaries. The RPM utility will unload the daemon and remove all ibmasm-related files from your system. rpm -e ibmusbasm64 If a 32-bit RSA II package had been installed, enter the following command also. rpm -e ibmusbasm 2.3 Utility Programs ______________________ There are two useful utility programs installed with this RPM. You must have root privileges to run these utilities. ibmspup is a small script that loads ibmasm (the service processor daemon). ibmspdown unloads the modules. These modules will not load if you do not have the RSA II hardware installed. 3.0 libusb Requirements ______________________________________ This RSA II RPM requires version 0.1.6 (or later) of the libusb/libusb-devel rpms. These are included in most current distributions, but if not, they must be installed prior to installing this RPM. Note: On SLES8, version 0.1.5-179 of libusb has been tested and is supported as a substitute for libusb 0.1.6.
