For this update to be applied, each node of the multi-node complex must be configured as a single-node server. Once each node is configured as a single-node server, the Linux Update package can be applied. After the updated is applied, the multi-node complex can be reassembled. NOTE: The DOS Update package does not require disassembly of the multi-node complex. 1.3 Enhancements - NA 1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the Update: - See the list of changes for information to determine whether or not you are affected by the enhancements and fixes. 1.5 Dependencies - BMC Firmware Version 1.5 (ZUBT22A) or higher is REQUIRED to be used with BIOS version 1.03 (ZUJT30A) and higher. Using a BMC version of 1.4 or lower and/or in combination of BIOS 1.03 or higher will result in a loss of RSA II related menus/information items in the F1 POST/BIOS Setup Utility and/or a loss of communication between POST/BIOS and the RSA II. 2.0 Installation and Setup Instructions The procedure to update the POST/BIOS is as follows: 2.1 Insert the "IBM x3850/x3950/x3800 POST/BIOS Flash Disk" into drive A. 2.2 Start up or restart your IBM x3850/x3950/x3800 server. 2.3 The system will boot off of the disk and present a window which allows you the option to flash various options. Choose "1 - Update POST/BIOS". 2.4 You will be asked if you would like to move the current POST/BIOS image to the backup ROM location. If you select 'Y', the current code will be flashed in to the backup bank immediately. ***Note, in a multi-chassis configuration, the primary node chassis backup ROM location is the only one which will be backed up. To backup secondary node's BIOS, please boot the secondary node(s) in standalone mode and update each backup BIOS individually. 2.5 If the current system POST/BIOS supports the Asset Tag feature, you will be asked if you would like to change it. If you select 'Y', you will be able to enter a new number. 2.6 You will then be asked if you would like to save the current code to a disk. If you select 'Y', you need to have a formatted disk already available, or specify a fully qualified path and file name. 2.7 At this point, the image will be loaded from the disk, and you will be asked to choose which language you wish to use during POST and in Setup. If you select a choice other than English, the selected language will be merged into the image. There is also an option to Quit the flash update on this menu. 2.8 After this completes the system will update the flash ROM with the new code. When this is complete you will be prompted to remove the disk and hit return to reboot the system. 2.9 On the reboot immediately following the flash update the user MUST enter the BIOS Setup utility by pressing when prompted. Upon entering the Setup utility the user must select the "Load Default Settings" line item from the main "Configuration/Setup Utility" menu. Select to load the system default settings. The user must now exit the setup utility and select "Yes, save and exit the Setup Utility". The system will automatically reboot. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions 3.1 Step by step instructions for this code update - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 366 Linux BIOS Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -s" where .sh is the downloaded update. NOTE: The following message is shown on RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and other distributions that do not install the compatibility libstdc++ library. ./lflash: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. If the above message is shown, install the compat-libstdc++*.rpm that was included on the distribution media. 3.2 Step by step instructions for extracting the Linux update files. - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 366 Linux BIOS Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -x " where .sh is the downloaded update and is the path to which the Windows update files will be extracted. NOTE: The following message is shown on RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and other distributions that do not install the compatibility libstdc++ library. ./lflash: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. If the above message is shown, install the compat-libstdc++*.rpm that was included on the distribution media. - The files extracted are all the files that are necessary to perform a BIOS update under Linux. Run "./lflash" from a command line to update BIOS in 32-bit Linux or run "./lflash64" from a command line to update BIOS in 64-bit Linux. - To flash the backup BIOS, run "./lflash -2". NOTE: On 366, the OSA IPMI Device Driver and the IBM Mapping Layer for OSA IPMI Device Driver are required to flash the BIOS. 3.3 Step by step instructions for extracting the DOS update files to diskette. - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 366 Linux BIOS Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -xd " where .sh is the downloaded update and is the path to which the Windows update files will be extracted. If is omitted, /dev/fd0 is assumed. NOTE: The following message is shown on RedHat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and other distributions that do not install the compatibility libstdc++ library. ./lflash: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. If the above message is shown, install the compat-libstdc++*.rpm that was included on the distribution media. - The diskette created is the DOS BIOS update diskette. 4.0 Unattended Mode 4.1 Steps for unattended mode. 4.1.1 Modify CONFIG.SYS on the Flash Diskette to read: "SHELL=FLASH2.EXE /u /r [*** SEE NOTE BELOW ***] " *** Note: An optional parameter of "/a:" can be added to allow for storing a system asset tag number where "" is replaced with up to a 32 digit string. 4.1.2 Reboot the system with the Flash Diskette in Drive A: 5.0 Unattended Mode 5.1 Performing the update in unattended mode - Run the "IBM eserver xSeries 366 Linux BIOS Update" with the following command line: "./.sh -s" where .sh is the downloaded update.
