Note: Before using this information and the product it supports, read the general information in "Notices and trademarks" in this document. _______________ 1.0 Overview _______________ This README describes current driver version for the Emulex Fibre Channel Expansion Cards and procedure for updating the driver on the server blade. 1.2 Limitations: -When using the 4Gb expansion card with an OPM module, the maximum supported speed is 2Gb -When using the 4Gb expansion card within the BladeCenter T Chassis, the maximum supported internal speed is 2Gb -When using the 4Gb expansion card in the HS40 the card must be installed in the slot closest to the processors 1.3 Level recommendation and prerequisites for the update: This driver is an initial release for Windows 2003 support 1.4 Dependencies: Consult with your storage vendor to determine the appropriate failover software to use with this driver. This driver works with 32-bit and 64bit versions of Windows 2003 Products supported: Emulex 4Gb SFF Fibre Channel Expansion Card (IBM Option P/N 39Y9186) Blades supported: HS20 Machine Type 8678, 8832, 8843 HS40 Machine Type 8839 LS20 Machine Type 8850 _________________________________________ 2.0 Installation and Setup Instructions _________________________________________ This section is divided into the following four sections. 3.1 Initial OS installation with the Fibre Channel Expansion Card as Boot 3.2 Adding the Fibre Channel Expansion Card Driver to the Existing OS 3.3 Updating the existing Fibre Channel Expansion Card Driver 3.4 Removing the Fibre Channel Expansion Card Driver ====================================================================== 2.1. Initial Windows 2003 installation with the Fibre Channel Expansion Card as Boot. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact IBM Support for supported configurations for configuring the Fibre Channel Expansion Card as the boot device. This procedure requires the system to be equipped with a floppy drive. Follow the procedure below to initially install Windows on the boot disk attached to the Fibre Channel Adapter. To install the driver files for the Fibre Channel Expansion card you will need a floppy diskette or CD containing the driver files. You can get the latest driver information and download the latest driver files from http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ Create the driver diskette: On a running Windows system install the driver files you previously downloaded from the IBM suppport site. If prompted, uninstall the previous version of the Emulex FC drivers. Once installation is completed, uncheck "Start Autopilot Installer" and click Finish. Browse to the directory you installed the driver pacakge to. The default is: C:\Program Files\Emulex\AutoPilot Installer\Drivers\Storport\x86 for 32 bit systems and C:\Program Files\Emulex\AutoPilot Installer\Drivers\Storport\x64 for 64 bit systems Copy the files from that directory to a blank, formatted floppy. ************************************* Important before starting the Windows installation the the internal ports on the switch that the daughtercard will connect to must be set to 4Gbps speed. ************************************* Open a telnet session to the fibre channel switch module. Log into the switch module 1. Start admin mode by tying: admin start then press 2. Tart edit mode by typing: config edit then press 3. Set the port speed by typing: set config port where is the port number - possible values are 1-14 4. Press again Link speed options will come up. Options are 1, 2, 4 and A. Type 4 and press 5. Press a few more times until switch prompt comes back 6. Repeat steps 3-5 as necessary for each port that an Emulex DC will connect to. 7. The new configuration must be saved and activated. Type config save and press 8. Type config activate and press 9. Logout from the switch ********************************************* ____________________________ Installing Windows _____________________________ 1. Start Windows installation procedure using the Setup CD. 2. Press F6 if you see the message Press F6 if you want to install a third party SCSI or RAID Driver ... After all the standard devices have been loaded, press S to Specify Additional Device. 3. Insert the Emulex diskette that was previously created and press ENTER. 4. Press enter to load the driver. Screen display "Setup will load support for the following mass storage device (s). Emulex Fibre Channel Adapter. Press Enter=Continue." Press Enter. 5. Continue with standard installation procedure. 6. After Windows has completed the installation, continue with the 'Updating Drivers' section for the installation of HBAnyware ====================================================================== 2.2 Adding the Fibre Channel Expansion Card Drivers and HBAnyware to an Existing Windows 2003 System. ------------------------------------------------------------------ To install the the driver the Fibre Channel Expansion you will need to have dowlonaded the driver files or a CD containing the driver files. You can get the latest driver information and download the latest driver files from http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ Perform the following steps to add the driver to the existing Windows 2003 ystem on a BladeCenter blade server running a 32-bit version of Windows. 1. Install the Fibre Channel Expansion Card to a HS20/HS40/LS20 server blade per directions provided in Fibre Channel Expansion Card Installation and User's Guide publication. 2. Power on BladeCenter or install the blade server (hot pluggable). Refer to blade server User's Guide documentation. 3. To associate the CD-ROM or diskette drive with the blade server, press the CD/diskette/USB select button on the blade server. For the location of the CD/diskette/USB button, see the illustration in the BladeCenter User's Guide. The LED on the button flashes while the request is being processed, then is steady when the ownership of the CD-ROM or diskette drive is transferred to the blade server. 4. To associate the keyboard port, mouse port, and video port with the blade server, press the keyboard/mouse/video select button. The LED on this button flashes while the request is processed, then is steady when the ownership of the keyboard, mouse, and video is transferred to the blade server. 5. When your blade server comes up, Windows will detect the newly installed device by displaying the Found New Hardware with Fibre Channel Controller message. Click Cancel to exit. Since the card is a multi-port card there will be multiple adapters found. Click cancel to exit for each adapter. 6. Run the driver installation package that was previously downloaded. Leave the 'Start AutoPilotInstaller' box checked to complete installation. Click Finish to run the AutoPilot installer. Installation will automatically complete. 7. If you are prompted the message: System Settings Change. Windows has finished installing a new devices. You must restart your computer before the settings will take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? Click Yes to restart the computer right away. ====================================================================== 2.3 Updating the Existing Fibre Channel Expansion Card Driver and HBAnyware ------------------------------------------------------------ Windows 2003 ------------ To update the Windows driver files for the Fibre Channel Expansion card you will need either a floppy diskette or have the driver files downloaded to the blade you wish to update. You can get information and download the latest driver files from http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/. Create the driver diskette: On a running Windows system install the driver files you previously downloaded from the IBM suppport site. If prompted, uninstall the previous version of the Emulex FC drivers. Once installation is completed, uncheck "Start Autopilot Installer" and click Finish. Browse to the directory you installed the driver pacakge to. Refer to the blade server User's Guide documentation. 2. To associate the CD-ROM or diskette drive with the blade server, press the CD/diskette/USB select button on the blade server. For the location of the CD/diskette/USB button, see the illustration in the BladeCenter User's Guide. The LED on the button flashes while the request is being processed, then is steady when the ownership of the CD-ROM or diskette drive is transferred to the blade server. 3. To associate the keyboard port, mouse port, and video port with the blade server, press the keyboard/mouse/video select button. Start the Device Manager by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, double clicking System applet, clicking Hardware tab, and clicking the Device Manager button. 5. Double click the SCSI and RAID controllers. 6. Double click Emulex Fibre Channel Adapter from the devices list. 7. Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Click Next. 8. Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver 9. Insert the Emulex Diskette into drive A: and click Have Disk. Instructions on making this diskette are On the Copy manufacturer's files from, type in A:\ or choose the folder where the driver files are located and click OK. 10. On Select a Device Driver, select a device. Click Next 11. Click Next on the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard/Start Device Driver Installation screen. 12. Click Finish on the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard/Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard. Click Close. 13. If you are prompted with the message: Your hardware settings have changed. You must restart your computer for these changes to take effect. Do you want to restart your computer now? Click Yes to restart the computer right away. ====================================================================== 2.4 Removing the Fibre Channel Expansion Card ---------------------------------------------- Refer to the Fibre Channel Expansion Card Installation and User's Guide for directions on how to remove the BladeCenter Fibre Channel Expansion Card. NOTE ---- * You do not normally have to use the Device Manager or the Hardware wizard to uninstall a Plug and Play device. After you have removed the device from your computer, and you have restarted your computer, Windows will recognize that it has been removed. ====================================================================== _____________________ 3.0 Unattended Mode _____________________ The driver supports the Unattended Mode.
