You can use the IBM Director Upward Integration Module (UIM) for CA UniCenter 3.0 NSM to enable TNG to monitor IBM Director Agents. IBM Director Upward Integration Module (UIM) for CA Unicenter 3.0 NSM integrates IBM Director Agent with Unicenter TNG, enabling TNG to monitor IBM Director Agent. IBM Director Agent is discovered and monitored by the Unicenter 3.0 Distributed State Machine (DSM) and World View (WV) components. All trap messages sent by IBM Director Agent are formatted and forwarded to TNG console. Information can be collected across a widely dispersed enterprise network and made available in real-time to a single TNG console. IBM Director UIM for CA Unicenter 3.0 NSM consists of the following three components: - Upward Integration Option for Unicenter 3.0 DSM component - Upward Integration Option for Unicenter 3.0 WV component - Upward Integration Option for Unicenter 3.0 AMO Agent component 1.1 Limitations You must install the following Authorized Program Analysis Reports (APAR) fixes. You can download these APAR fixes from http://www.ibm.com/support. Use the APAR fix number to search this Web site. o IC36176 - IBM Director 4.1 interim fix ensures the proper function of the Unicenter integration with IBM Director Agent 4.1. This APAR fix is available in IBM Director Agent, version 4.10.2 or later. o IC36175 - IBM Director 3.1.1 interim fix ensures the proper function of the Unicenter integration with IBM Director Agent 3.1.1. o It is recommended that you remove the UIM, version 3.1, and run the clean_sadmin and resetdsm commands before you install the new UIM. IMPORTANT: After completing the installation of the IBM Director Agent UIM for CA Unicenter, you must run the clear_sadmin command and then the resetdsm command on the CA Unicenter Server. 1.2 Publications The following publications are available from the IBM Support Web site (see section 5.0, "Support Web sites"): o "IBM Director 4.1 Installation and Configuration Guide" o "IBM Director 4.1 Systems Management Guide" o "IBM Director 4.1 Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide" o "IBM Director 4.1 Events Reference" These publications are in Portable Document Format (PDF) and require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. 2.0 INSTALLATION An installation wizard is provided to install the IBM Director 4.1 UIM for CA Unicenter TNG. Using this wizard, you can install one or more of the three UIM components. 2.1 Hardware and software prerequisites This product supports both CA Unicenter 2.4 and 3.0. The IBM Director 4.1 UIM for CA Unicenter requires a minimum of: o 4 MB of free disk space o 2 MB in SystemRoot o 2 MB in Unicenter 3.0 installed Path The UIM DSM component requires the following Unicenter component be installed: o Unicenter DSM The UIM WV component requires the following Unicenter components be installed: o Common Object Repository o Unicenter World View base component The UIM AMO Agent component requires the following Unicenter component be installed: o Unicenter AMO Agent Additional software prerequisites for each of the UIM components are provided in the installation steps for each component. For hardware and software requirements for the CA Unicenter installation, see the CA Unicenter installation and configuration guide. 2.2 UIM Distributed State Machine (DSM) component installation This component installs the Policy, Class, MIB and abrowser files. The component has the following additional software prerequisites: o Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) 4.0 Server or Workstation with Service Pack 3 or Windows(R) 2000 Server or Workstation o SNMP Service o Unicenter Distributed State Machine 2.3 UIM World View (WV) component installation This component installs icons and abrowser configuration files on a World View client system. On the systems where you intend to install the World View 2-D map, the following software must be installed: o Windows NT 4.0 Server or Workstation with Service Pack 3 or Windows 2000 Server or Workstation o Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 Utilities with Service Pack 3 o Unicenter 3.0 World View Base Component o Unicenter 3.0 Agent Views 2.4 UIM AMO Agent component installation This component installs the Ums_inv2.bat file that creates the MIF file for IBM Director Agent. It also modifies the umclient.bat file to call ums_inv2.bat whenever AMO Agent is run. You must install this UIM component on a system with Unicenter AMO Agent. For complete installation instructions for the Microsoft software and CA Unicenter TNG, see their product documentation. 3.0 KNOWN PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS See section 1.1 "Limitations". 4.0 CHANGE HISTORY o IC36801 During discovery of IBM Director Agent objects, a call made by the UIM to delete objects in the DSM fails. This failure can cause corruption of the Unicenter DSM. This call has been removed. For this fix, you must install IBM Director Agent, version 4.10.2 in addition to the updated UIM. o IBM Director Agent CA Unicenter Integration 3.1.1 to 4.1 - Added the following support for monitoring: o RAID hardware o Out-of-band service processor and BladeCenter management module support o Network adapters o System processors o Physical memory o Power supplies - Added support for additional server traps 5.0 SUPPORT WEB SITES The following Web pages provide resources for understanding, using, and troubleshooting IBM Director and systems-management tools. o IBM Online Assistant and e-Mail http://www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-4Z7HJX.html This Web page offers a quick resource to help solve your technical questions.
