You can use the IBM Director Upward Integration Module (UIM) for Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) to access the following functions from a Microsoft SMS Console: o Event notification o Collections o Inventory collection o Monitors o Queries o Tools Also, the integration provides tasks that you can use to: o Access the Wake on LAN(R) feature o Use the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) o Build a file package for deploying IBM Director Agent (Software distribution) 1.1 Publications The following publications are available on the "IBM Director Version 4.1" CD in the docs directory: o "IBM Director 4.1 Installation and Configuration Guide" o "IBM Director 4.1 Systems Management Guide" The following publications are available from the IBM Support Web site (see section 5.0, "Support Web sites"): o "IBM Director 4.1 Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide" o "IBM Director 4.1 Events Reference" These publications are in Portable Document Format (PDF) and require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. 2.0 INSTALLATION The installation instructions are provided in the "IBM Director 4.1 Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide." This guide is available from the IBM Support Web site (see section 5.0, "Support Web sites"). The guide is in Portable Document Format (PDF) and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it. 3.0 KNOWN PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS See the "IBM Director 4.1 Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide" for any additional limitations. o The IBM Director 4.1x UIM for SMS inventory feature is not compatible with previous releases of IBM Director Agent. You must use IBM Director Agent 4.1x to access inventory information. o Non-IBM Director Agent managed systems can have IBM Director Agent Resources launched against them. Ignore this task on non-IBM Director Agent SMS clients. o The currently available Director Agent Software Distribution package cannot be installed on a clean system without full Administrator rights. Until an updated package is available use the following workarounds: o Use the existing Software Distribution directions, but only when upgrading existing 3.1 or 3.1.1 Director Agent machines to 4.1x o You may cleanly install 4.1x on a machine with the current package with the following changes. You will also need to modify the Environment tab of the DirectorAgent Program Properties. Here you will need to select Program can run "Only when a user is logged in" and Run mode needs to be Run with user's rights. In order for the Install to work the currently logged in user on the client machine must be a local administrator. This issue will be resolved in a future release of the software package. 4.0 CORRECTIONS TO THE PUBLICATION Software Distribution The directions provided in the IBM Director 4.1: Upward Integration Modules Installation Guide are still applicable with the following exceptions. You will now be downloading the 4.11 agent packages from the web, IBMDirectorAgentWindows4.11.zip. In order to use this new package you will need to modify the .sms file to read in the 4.11 files instead of the 4.1 files. The line: COMMANDLINE=IBMDirectorAgent4.1.exe -s -a SILENT RSP=\\\\diragent.rsp Should be replaced with: COMMANDLINE=IBMDirectorAgent4.11.exe -s -a SILENT RSP=\\\\diragent.rsp The rest of the Software Distribution method remains unchanged. 5.0 SUPPORT WEB SITES The following Web pages provide resources for understanding, using, and troubleshooting IBM Director and systems-management tools. o IBM Online Assistant and e-Mail http://www.ibm.com/pc/qtechinfo/MIGR-4Z7HJX.html This Web page offers a quick resource to help solve your technical questions.
