Added initial driver support for the SATA controller, based on mainline code from kernel version 2.4.31. Hardware Features Unsupported in this Release: 1. Hotplugging 2. NCQ 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------- 3.1 Making a driver disk from the provided driver disk image. Under Linux, use the following command: dd if= of= bs=1440k where is the name of the driver disk image file and is the device name of the 3.5" floppy drive, typically either /dev/fd0 or /dev/floppy. Under Windows, other applications such as rawrite or emt4win may be used to write the driver disk image to a 3.5" 1.44Mb floppy disk. 3.2 Installing to a SATA HDD If Linux is being installed to a SATA HDD, create the driver disk as in 3.1 and use the 'dd' parameter at install time to indicate that you wish to use a driver disk. 3.3 Adding a SATA HDD to an existing non-SATA system If a SATA HDD is being added to an existing non-SATA system, then create the driver disk as in 3.1, mount the disk, and run the 'install.sh' script. 3.4 Non-standard kernels If non-standard or otherwise unsupported kernel is used, the driver will need to be compiled from the source code. Doing so is outside the scope of this document. Refer to the appropriate source code tarball and also the RedHat driver update kit in order to create a usable driver and driver disk image. 4.0 Configuration Information ------------------------------- No configuration information is needed. 5.0 Unattended Mode ------------------------------- Performing an unattended installation to a SATA HDD using RedHat Kickstart will require the driver disk image file and is beyond the scope of this document. Please refer to the RedHat documentation on Kickstart installations. 6.0 WEB SITES AND PHONE SUPPORT ------------------------------- Information and assistance is available through the IBM Web site and by phone. 6.1 Web sites IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ IBM eServer Web site: http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseries/ IBM IntelliStation Web site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/intellistation/ 6.2 Software service and support -------------------------------- Through IBM Support Line, you can get telephone assistance, for a fee, with usage, configuration, and software problems with xSeries servers, IntelliStation workstations, and appliances.
