Please refer to the section 4.0 of this document for instructions on how to stop the IBM Director program. By following the installation instructions shown below, the correct System Management Device Driver will be automatically installed onto your Netfinity Server. If the installation is being done from this diskette, insert this diskette into the server's floppy diskette drive, bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples shown below assume the floppy drive is A:. If the installation is being done from the Advanced Systems Management Utilities CD-ROM, insert this CD-ROM into the server's CD-ROM drive, bring up a command prompt window, screen, or session, and enter one of the following commands. The examples shown below assume the CD-ROM drive is D:. For Windows 2000: To install System Management drivers under Windows 2000: * Open a Command prompt * If installing from a diskette, type: A:\WIN2000\SETUP * If installing from a CD-ROM, type: D:\DD\WIN2000\SETUP * Follow the directions that appear on the screen NOTE: If the Windows 2000 Hardware Wizard starts itself before, or during the installation of System Management device drivers, because it has detected the System Management hardware, then close the Hardware Wizard by clicking the "Cancel" button. The actions of the Hardware Wizard are not needed. For Windows NT 4: NOTE: The NT-4 operating system must have Service Pack 3 or higher installed in order for these drivers to work properly. NOTE: If you are installing on xSeries 232 and 342 servers without the Remote Supervisor Adapter, or on xSeries 300 servers, the machine will need to be rebooted after following either of the two installation methods below. There are 2 methods you can choose from when installing the Windows NT 4 System Management Drivers. 1 The unattended method will install the drivers and accept default values for any screen prompts that would otherwise appear. The user will be prompted if an error occurs during installation. For an unattended installation of the drivers: * Open a Command prompt * If installing from a diskette, type: A:\NT\SETUP -q * If installing from a CD-ROM, type: D:\DD\NT\SETUP -q * Follow the directions that appear on the screen 2 The normal method will prompt the user with instructions and wait for the user to answer before continuing with the installation. For a normal installation of the drivers: * Open a Command prompt * If installing from a diskette, type: A:\NT\SETUP * If installing from a CD-ROM, type: D:\DD\NT\SETUP * Follow the directions that appear on the screen If the NT 4 System Management Drivers are being upgraded on a system that has Universal Manageability Services (UMS) running, then the easiest method to upgrade the driver is to follow the steps listed below. * Click on the Start Menu, then select Settings, then select Control Panel * In the Control Panel window, double-click the Devices icon * Scroll down to the entry that shows ibmspw and highlight it * Click the Startup... button on the right side of the window * In the Startup window, select the Disabled radio button and then click the OK button * Close the Devices and Control Panel windows and reboot the machine. * After the machine has rebooted, install the System Management Drivers using one of the two installation steps described above.
