Many backup utilities send SNMP traps when backups fail and some notify you when a drive needs to be cleaned. However, this data might be missing or inaccurate. Tape Drive Management Assistant provides cleaning information to you in a clear, consistent manner and includes information about the current firmware installed on your tape drive and its cleaning history. You can use this information to troubleshoot problems with your backup system. An account with administrative access to IBM Director Server and each managed system must be used when installing Tape Drive Management Assistant. The SNMP service must be installed and running when installing Tape Drive Management Assistant. 1. Download Tape Drive Management Assistant to the server on which IBM Director Server is installed and all managed systems. 2. For each managed system, run the downloaded executable file. A Welcome window opens. 3. Click "Next". A window opens displaying the directory in which Tape Drive Management Assistant will be installed. 5. Click "Next." The installation starts. 6. A summary window opens. Click "Finish". When you install Tape Drive Management Assistant on IBM Director Server, IBM Director Server automatically restarts.
