The following document contains instructions on how to install the updated IBM SDLT 220 or 320 tape drive driver for the Windows 2000 Intel platform. This driver is for the Intel Platform only. Driver History: 1.7 Added support for the SDLT320 drive. * Fixed the GetDriveParameters routine, in which the default block size for SDLT320 drives was being set incorrectly to 32 KB instead of 64 KB. This would cause problems when attempting to use a 320 drive to backread tapes originally written in earlier model drives -- e.g., DLT8000 or SuperDLT1 (SDLT220). * Modified GetDriveParameters routine to add the SDLT320 to the list of drives that support TAPE_DRIVE_LOCK_UNLOCK. 1.7 Updated INF file to match driver version 1.7(file size, file date, file version) 1.7a Moved the Tandberg drive entries in the INF file to the displayed list of user-selectable drive models. 1.7b Added entry to the INF file for a Compaq-personality SDLT320 drive. 1.6 Never released. For internal testing only. 1.5 Modified TapeError routine to ignore Cleaning Requests when soft (recoverable) errors occur. This change should affect only DLT7000 and DLT8000-compatible drives, which may return a status of ASC = 80 and ASCQ = 02. 1.5 Updated INF file to match driver version 1.5(file size, file date, file version) 1.4 Added support for DLTVS drives. The DLT1 drives are handled functionally in the driver the same as DLT7000 models. Specifically, the DLT1 drives are included in the SetMediaParameters conditional that checks for odd-byte block sizes. For these drives, an Invalid Device Request is returned if the BlockSize requested is odd. 1.4 Updated INF file to match driver version 1.4. (file size, file date, file version) 1.3 No functional changes. * Re-compiled source using Windows XP DDK to create both 32-bit and 64-bit XP-compatible drivers. * A minor change was made to a data assignment statement in the GetMediaParameters routine, which was changed to eliminate a compiler warning reported by the XP DDK. 1.3 Updated INF file to match driver version 1.3. (file size, file date, file version) 1.3a Added entry in INF file to support the SDLT320 drive. 1.3b Removed placeholder entry in INF. 1.3c Added entries in INF file to support the DLTVS. 1.2 Original Release. No Win XP support. 1.1 Test build MAKING AN INSTALLATION DISKETTE: After running the executable file, there will be 4 files extracted to the directory. These are: QntmDLT.inf QntmDLT.sys QntmDLT.cat DLTdrv.txt (this file) To make an Installation Diskette, copy the following 3 files to a formatted 3-1/2 inch floppy diskette. QntmDLT.inf QntmDLT.sys QntmDLT.cat INSTALLING THE DRIVER: 1. Shutdown Windows if it is running and power down the system. 2. Connect the DLT tape drive to the system. Ensure that the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. Power on the tape drive. 3. Startup the system and log into Windows. 4. Right-click on the "My Computer" Icon and select "Manage". This will bring up the Computer Management applet. 5. In Computer Management, double-click "Device Manager". A list of device subsystems will be displayed in the right view. 6. The target tape drive may be found in either the "Tape drives" or "Other devices" section. Expand the section where the target drive is located. Right-click the target drive and select "Properties". NOTE: It may be necessary to troubleshoot the SCSI bus to which the target tape drive is attached if Windows does not list the drive in the "Tape drives" or "Other devices" sections. Any such problems must be fixed before continuing. 7. In the Properties window, verify that the SCSI ID matches that of the target tape drive that you are installing. 8. Select the "Driver" tab and then select "Update Driver...". This will start the "Upgrade Device Driver" Wizard. 9. In the Device Wizard, select "Next". 10. Select "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver" radio button. 11. Select "Next". 12. If the drive is unknown to the system, the next view is "Hardware Type". Otherwise, the "Select a Device Driver" view is displayed. a. In the "Hardware Type" view, select either "Other devices" or "Tape drives". Then select "Have Disk..." on the next view. b. In the "Select a Device Driver" view, click "Have Disk...". 13. Insert the Installation Diskette into the floppy drive. Make sure that the path name to the drive is correct. 14. Click "OK". 15. Highlight the listed DLTtape tape driver and then click "Next". 16. The "Start Device Driver Installation" view is displayed. 17. Click "Next" to install the driver. a. Should the Wizard indicate that the driver already exists on the system and prompts you for a selection, select "New". b. The Windows 2000 Setup window is displayed. Verify the correct path to the driver, then select "Continue". 18. The next view is "Completing the Upgrade Driver Wizard". Click "Finish". You may be prompted to reboot your system. 19. The DLTtape tape driver is installed. The exacutable will extract to build a diskette image containing the following four files. x x x x Note: The default settings for Windows Explorer is to hide files of type ".SYS". In order to view the driver in the Explorer, select the "View" menu. Select "Options..." Select the "View" tab. Select "Show all files". It is highly recommended that this setting be returned to its default setting, "Hide files of these types" when you are finished installing the driver. Note: You must have 'administrative' priviledges in order to install drivers. INSTALLING THE DRIVER: Installing the driver for SDLT 220/320: 1. Shutdown Windows 2000 if it is running and power down the system. 2. Connect the DLT1 tape drive to the system. Ensure the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. Note: (It is also advisable to have tape devices on a bus separate from the OS disk bus) 3. Startup the system and log into Windows 2000. 4. Windows will automatically detect the installation of a new piece of hardware(the tape unit) and ask for a device driver location. 5. In the Installion dialog box, click on Have Disk. The Install from disk dialog box is displayed. 6. Insert the disk containing the x.sys driver into a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive. Change the drive letter in the Copy From field to the floppy drive and click OK. If you have problems, questions or feedback relating to the installation or usage of this driver you can contact IBM technical support at www.pc.ibm.com/support.
