Using these diagnostic actions, you can prevent or minimize server downtime. You can perform actions for the following devices: o IBM ServeRAID(TM) controller o SCSI tape drive o System-management hardware o CD-ROM drive o System memory information o IBM Light Path Diagnostics(TM) o Diskette drive o SCSI or IDE disk drive o Microprocessor o Serial port o Parallel port 1.1 Operating system support Real Time Diagnostics is supported on the following operating systems: o Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Server o Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server o Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter o Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional 1.2 Server support Real Time Diagnostics is supported on the following xSeries servers and enclosures: x200 (8478) x300 (8672) RXE-100 (8684) x200 (8479) x305 (8673) BladeCenter(TM) unit (8677) x205 (8480) x330 (8654) BladeCenter(HS20) (8678) x220 (8645) x330 (8674) x220 (8646) x330 (8675) x225 (8647) x335 (8676) x230 (8658) x340 (8656) x232 (8668) x342 (8669) x235 (8671) x345 (8670) x240 (8664) x350 (8682) x250 (8666) x360 (8686) x255 (8685) x370 (8681) x260 (8665) x440 (8687) 1.3 Enhancements This release of Real Time Diagnostics contains the following enhancements: o BladeCenter unit diagnostic tasks. These tasks include: - Self-Test Results - Light Path Diagnostics - I2C Bus Test Results. Reports the status of the Inter-Integrated Circuit communication connected to the BladeCenter management module. - Midplane Connectivity. Determines whether communication through the midplane is operational. - System Event Log. Gathers the System Event Log of the management module and stores it in a text file. Use this task on either the management module or the BladeCenter unit. o USB Host controller actions o USB CD-ROM actions o Intel Ethernet actions o Broadcom Ethernet actions 1.4 Level of recommendations and prerequisites for the update IBM Director Versions 3.1, 3.1.1, or IBM Director 4.0 for BladeCenter products must be installed. 1.5 Dependencies None. 2.0 CHANGE HISTORY __________________ 2.1 Real Time Diagnostics 1.10 o Added BladeCenter unit diagnostic tasks. Download Real Time Diagnostics to the server on which IBM Director Server is installed, all IBM Director Agent managed servers, and the IBM Director management console. 2. For each of the IBM Director components, run the downloaded executable file. A Welcome window opens. 3. Click Next. The License Agreement window opens. The License is accepted. 4. Click Next. A window opens displaying the directory in which Real Time Diagnostics will be installed. 5. Click Next. The installation proceeds. 6. A summary window opens. Click Finish. When you install Real Time Diagnostics on the server on which IBM Director Server is installed, IBM Director Server automatically restarts. 4.0 TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS ________________________ If you are installing Real Time Diagnostics on a server that is runnning Microsoft Windows 2000 without Service Pack 3 installed, you must run the Real Time Diagnostics installation from a directory that is writable. You must be able to create a file in that directory or be able to write to the directory. If you try to install Real Time Diagnostics versions 1.03 or earlier on a system that is running IBM Director Console and the system is not supported, the install will not run.
