This firmware level supports the Alert Standard Format (ASF) technology. 1.2 Limitations This utility will only work on specific machine types. xSeries: 8671, 8685 1.3 Enhancements This update enables the system for ASF-style alerting. Updates to the BIOS, integrated firmware, or IBM Director software may be required for full operation of ASF. 1.4 Level of Recommendations and Prerequisites for the Update: This update is not required UNLESS the customer wants to use the ASF feature. It is recommended to update the system BIOS to the latest level available. It is recommended to update the integrated system management firmware to the latest level available. 1.5 Dependencies: This utility requires the Broadcom Ethernet driver to be at version 2.78 or higher. The on-board Ethernet must be enabled for this utility to function properly. 2.0 Change History -------------------- 2.1 Broadcom Ethernet Firmware Update Utility 1.99I - First release. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------- 3.1 Step by step instructions for this code update Run the ASFUPD.EXE utility from a console prompt or from the Start Menu -> Run command. When the utility unpacks and starts, select "Start" to begin the machine check for system type and Ethernet driver level. If all is correct, the firmware will be updated to level 1.99I. If there is more than one Broadcom adapter in the card, the customer may be presented with a dialog to select the appropriate adapter for ASF. Only one adapter in the system may be enabled with ASF at any given time.
