UpdateXpress Interim CD for x260, x366, x460 and MXE460 ======================================================= This is a Read Me for the UpdateXpress Interim CD for x260, x366, x460 and MXE460. This Interim CD should NOT be used to update x3800, x3850, x3950 or x3950 E models. (See Technical Notes and Limitations below). It contains updates to BIOS, BMC, CPLD, RSA2, SAS HDD firmware and ServeRaid 8i firmware fixes. Note: This is NOT a complete UpdateXpress CD; it is for locally updating system firmware on the x260, x366, x460 and MXE460 only. The only driver updates available are for the ServeRaid 8i Device Driver and RSA2 Device Driver. This CD does not support UpdateXpress Live, IBM Update Assistant or the IBM System Update Tool for Microsoft SMS. This CD contains the following: For x366, x460, MXE460 For x260 ---------------------- -------- BIOS v1.08 ZUJT47C BIOS v1.06 ZUJT40B BMC v1.20 ZUBT35D BMC v1.16 ZUBT32D RSA2 v1.07 ZUEP31B RSA2 v1.05 ZUEP27A CPLD v1.05 HEUD17A CPLD v1.03 HEUD10A Diags v1.04 ZUYT21A Diags v1.03 ZUTY20A SAS Seagate HDD Firmware B51C SAS Seagate FW (Not required) ServeRaid 8i 8264 firmware ServeRaid 8i 8264 firmware Onboard SAS firmware 1325 Onboard SAS firmware 1548 Onboard NIC firmware 3.36 Onboard NIC firmware 3.36 This package contains important updates: - Support for x260, x366, x460, MXE460 - Latest SR 8i 8264 firmware (all) - Latest SAS HDD B51C firmware for Seagate low profile HDDs (x366, x460, MXE460) - BIOS 40B (x260), BIOS 47C (x366, x460, MXE460) - BMC 32D (x260), 35D (x366, x460, MXE460) - RSA2 Firmware 27A (x260) 31B (x366, x460, MXE460) Note: RSA2 Firmware Update Packages for Linux are provided by the following update packages: - 41y7924l.sh in SGUIDE\MACH\8874\PKGS\RSA2 (x366, x460, MXE460) - 40k8636l.sh in SGUIDE\MACH\8865\PKGS\RSA2 (x260) RSA2 Firmware Update Packages for Windows are provided by the following update packages: - 41y7924w.exe in SGUIDE\MACH\8874\PKGS\RSA2 (x366, x460, MXE460) - 40k8636w.exe in SGUIDE\MACH\8865\PKGS\RSA2 (x260) Please see the associated *.txt files in these directories for more detailed installation instructions. The code in this UpdateXpress package is considered critical because it provides: - SAS Seagate hard drive firmware fixes for potential performance slowdowns and hangs. - SR 8i firmware fixes for potential performance slowdowns and hangs. - Interlocks to prevent flashing incompatible code on new models. See Notes below. Technical Notes and Limitations: ------------------------------- New code, not included in this UpdateXpress package but currently on the IBM Web site, supports the IPMI 2.0 spec which has an enhanced BMC settings structure. Earlier code, including the code in this UpdateXpress package, supports only the IPMI 1.5 spec. Directly downflashing and upflashing can result in a loss of BMC settings because of the differences in the settings structure. If a customer requires downflashing to the earlier IPMI 1.5 spec code, a conversion function is added to the BMC 32D (x260) and BMC 35D (x366, x460, MXE460) update utilities in this Interim UX package that allows flashing forward and backward from new IPMI 2.0 code levels, without loss of customer BMC settings. New models, (x3800, x3850, x3950), have updated Hurricane 3.0 level chipsets on the processor boards. These boards REQUIRE different BIOS and BMC levels than what is in this package. This CD should NOT be used to update x3800, x3850, x3950 or x3950 E models, because unpredictable results can occur. To help avoid inadvertent updates, a check was added to BMC 32D (x260) and BMC 35D (x366, x460, MXE460) and BIOS 47C that will abort back-leveling BIOS and BMC on Hurricane 3.0 level chipsets processor boards. UpdateXpress cannot detect the versions of the BMC firmware or SAS Hard Disk Drive Microcode that are currently installed. As a result, these display as "Unknown" and UpdateXpress attempts to update them each time you run the application. After all updates have completed, the system may appear to hang for up to four minutes before returning to the main menu. Upon returning to the main menu after updates are complete, a warning message may indicate that an error occurred with one or more updates. Code levels should be verified in Setup to insure that code was properly updated. The CPLD Update option appears after Exiting the main UpdateXpress menu. Upon exiting the main UpdateXpress menu, a message stating to change to the A: drive, then enter CPLD xxxx, where xxxx is the machine type, appears. After updating the CPLD, the system must be AC power cycled for the update to take effect. To confirm the CPLD level, boot the system to the CPLD Diskette available at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-60630.html. The CPLD version is displayed on the first screen.
