PowerChute Business Edtion may install a vulnerable JRE. There are no reliable symptoms that would indicate the described issue has been exploited. This patch updates the version of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) used by the PowerChute(R) Business Edition server and agent components to v1.4.2_10 on Microsoft(R) Windows(R) operating systems, on Linux(R), or on Solaris(R). PCBE versions affected: 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, 7.0.3 or 7.0.4. 2.0 CHANGE HISTORY -------------------- Version 7.x, PCBE70XJREUPDATE - Initial Release 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions ----------------------------------------- 3.1 Installing the PowerChute Business Edition JRE Update on Microsoft Windows To install PowerChute Business Edition JRE Patch on Windows interactively: Run the "setup.exe" executable file. At the welcome screen, click "Next" to view the license agreement, and then click "yes" if you accept the terms of the license agreement. When you are ready to install the patch, click "Install." After the files have been transferred, click "Finish" to complete the upgrade. 3.2 Installing the PowerChute Business Edition JRE Update on Linux To install PowerChute Business Edition JRE Patch on Linux: The Linux installation contains two files, "install.sh" and "jre142_10lnx.tar.gz". Navigate to the directory where these two files have been downloaded and run the install.sh script, following the on-screen instructions. 3.3 Installing the PowerChute Business Edition JRE Update on Solaris To install PowerChute Business Edition JRE Patch on Solaris: The Solaris installation contains two files, "install.sh" and "jre142_10sol.tar.gz". Navigate to the directory where these two files have been downloaded and run the install.sh script, following the on-screen instructions. 3.4 Other Instructions and Troubleshooting Tips If the script will not execute on either Linux or Solaris, you may need to change permissions by first using the command "chmod a+x install.sh" to make the script executable. If you upgrade PowerChute Business Edition to version 7.0.4 or earlier, or if you add either a server or agent component to a previously patched system, you must reapply the update patch. To uninstall this patch on a Windows operating system, you must uninstall PowerChute Business Edition first and then uninstall the patch. When PowerChute Business Edition is uninstalled on Solaris or Linux, the JRE is not removed because it may be in use by other applications. The updated JRE can be safely removed if PowerChute Business Edition has been removed and it is confirmed that no other product on the system is using this copy of the JRE. You must have administrator rights to install the patch. 4.0 Unattended Mode --------------------- 4.1 Steps for unattended mode on Microsoft Windows Installing the Patch without User Interaction: Copy all of the installation files to a single directory on the machine where the install will be performed. If the files are copied to the C:\Temp directory, for example, then the silent install is performed by using the following command: setup /s /f1"C:\Temp\Setup.iss" You must use the absolute path to the .iss file when specifying its location. After the install is completed, a setup.log file will be generated in the same directory where the install files are located. A ResultCode of 0 in the [ResponseResult] section of the setup.log file indicates a successful silent install. Note: By performing a silent install, you are agreeing to the terms of the American Power Conversion software license agreement. To view this agreement launch the installer without any command line arguments and follow the prompts until you reach the agreement. 4.2 Steps for unattended mode on Linux This update does not support unattended installation on Linux. 4.3 Steps for unattended mode on Solaris This update does not support unattended installation on Solaris. 5.0 Web sites and phone support --------------------------------- Information and assistance is available through the IBM Web site and by phone. 5.1 Web sites IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support/ IBM eServer Web site: http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseries/ 5.2 Software service and support Through IBM Support Line, you can get telephone assistance, for a fee, with usage, configuration, and software problems with xSeries servers, IntelliStation workstations, and appliances.
