You must install the RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID Update on all management servers (servers with RDM Server installed), management consoles (systems with RDM Console installed), and deployment servers (systems with RDM Deployment Server installed) that have RDM Version 4.20.3 installed. 2.0 INSTALLING RDM 4.20.3 SERVERAID UPDATE ------------------------------------------- To install the update: o You must have first installed RDM 4.20.3 on the same system. o You must be logged onto the system with an operating-system account that has at least local administrator privileges. Notes: o RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID Update cannot be uninstalled. o During an upgrade install of the IBM Director console or server, the classfix directory may be deleted. As a result, you must reinstall the RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID Update after the IBM Director upgrade. 2.1 Installing RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID Update on Windows ------------------------------------------------------- Note: The instructions below refer to the default directories for an RDM and IBM Director Windows installation: C:\Program Files\IBM\RDM\ and C:\Program Files\IBM\Director\ If you did not install RDM and/or IBM Director to the default locations, you will have to make adjustments to reference the correct paths, both for RDM and IBM Director. To install the update: 1. Verify you have RDM Version 4.20.3 installed on your server by selecting Director Console -> Help -> Product Information, then finding the Remote Deployment Manager build number in the Extension entry. RDM 4.20.3 has build number 10330. 2. Execute the file rdm4203_serveraidupdate.exe to install to the default RDM location. If you have installed in a custom location, enter the new location when prompted. 3. Run the mkimages file located in the "C:\Program Files\IBM\RDM\local\env" directory. 4. Move all of the files under the "C:\Program Files\IBM\RDM\classfix" directory to the "C:\Program Files\IBM\Director\classfix" directory. You might have to create the "C:\Program Files\IBM\Director\classfix" directory. 5. Restart Director and RDM. 2.2 Installing RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID Update on Linux ------------------------------------------------------- Note: The instructions below refer to the default directories for an RDM and IBM Director Linux installation: /opt/IBM/RDM/ and /opt/ibm/director/ If you did not install RDM and/or IBM Director to the default locations, you will have to make adjustments to reference the correct paths, both for RDM and IBM Director. To install the update: 1. Verify you have RDM Version 4.20.3 installed on your server by selecting Director Console -> Help -> Product Information, then finding the Remote Deployment Manager build number in the Extension entry. RDM 4.20.3 has build number 10330. 2. Copy rdm4203_serveraidupdate.exe to the RDM installation directory. 3. Install by entering the command "unzip rdm4203_serveraidupdate" at the command line. 4. Run the mkimages file located in the "/opt/IBM/RDM/local/env" directory. 5. Move all of the files under the "/opt/IBM/RDM/classfix" directory to the "/opt/ibm/director/classfix" directory. You might have to create the "/opt/ibm/director/classfix" directory. 6. Restart Director and RDM. 3.0 ADDITIONAL SUPPORT IN THIS MODULE -------------------------------------- The RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID update adds support in RDM 4.20.3 for the following: o ServeRAID 8e (Adaptec HostRAID) SATA and IBM ServeRAID 8e (Adaptec HostRAID) SAS on Intellistation M40 and x306m, x206m eServers. o ServeRAID 7t and ServeRAID 8i on Intellistation M40 and x306m, x206m eServers. 4.0 PROBLEMS RESOLVED BY THIS MODULE ------------------------------------- The RDM 4.20.3 ServeRAID update resolves the following problems: o x206, x306, x226, and Z20 eServers with SATA HostRAID enabled will fail qualification on any RAID Custom or RAID Clone Configuration Task that is attempted on RDM 4.20.3. Scan and other tasks work on these systems, but any attempt to run a RAID task results in a qualification error. o Adding a Plug and Play driver to an RDM server running Windows 2000 will cause the Plug and Play driver zip file to be deleted. 5.0 SUPPORT WEB SITES ---------------------- The following Web pages provide resources for understanding, using, and troubleshooting RDM and systems-management tools. o IBM RDM 4.20 Web page: http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/xseries/systems_management/sys_migration/rdm.html This Web page presents an overview of RDM.
