It is used stand-alone to create the DOS bootable update diskette. The .IMG file included in this package is a non self-extracting DOS bootable floppy diskette image. It is used in conjuction with a disk creation program to create the DOS bootable update diskette. You will need one blank diskette. Use the diskette created from this package to boot, then update, the firmware of your IBM server or IBM option. NOTE: The UPDATE.BAT file must be run in real mode DOS. It cannot be run in a DOS window. UPDATE.BAT upgrades the ethernet firmware within the selected server or IBM option. If more than one ethernet device exists in the server, all devices which match the PCI vendor id, device id, SSID, and SSDID will be updated. In general, add-in adapter cards (NICs) will not match the devices which are imbedded in the server and will not be updated. The UPDATE.BAT usage is as follows: UPDATE DEVICE where: DEVICE is the 4 digit IBM machine type of the server or 7 character part number of the IBM option to be updated. Example 1: to update the ethernet firmware of an IBM server with machine type 8832: UPDATE 8832 Example 2: to update the ethernet firmware of an IBM option with part number 73P9030: UPDATE 73P9030 The follow is a list of IBM servers and options which can be updated using this package: DEVICE DESCRIPTION --------------------- 73P9030 - IBM eServer BladeCenter Gigabit Ethernet Expansion Card 26K4842 - IBM eServer BladeCenter SFF Gigabit Ethernet Expansion Card 6216 - IBM Intellistation E Pro 6217 - IBM Intellistation A Pro 6218 - IBM Intellistation M Pro 6219 - IBM Intellistation M Pro 6221 - IBM Intellistation Z Pro 6223 - IBM Intellistation Z Pro 6224 - IBM Intellistation A Pro 6225 - IBM Intellistation M Pro 6226 - IBM Intellistation E Pro 6227 - IBM Intellistation Z Pro 6228 - IBM Intellistation M Pro 8480 - IBM eServer xSeries 205 8647 - IBM eServer xSeries 225 8648 - IBM eServer xSeries 226 8649 - IBM eServer xSeries 225 8671 - IBM eServer xSeries 235 8673 - IBM eServer xSeries 305 8676 - IBM eServer xSeries 335 8678 - IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20 type 8678 8685 - IBM eServer xSeries 255 8687 - IBM eServer xSeries 440 8830 - IBM eServer xSeries 335 8832 - IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20 type 8832 8835 - IBM eServer xSeries 325 8837 - IBM eServer xSeries 336 8840 - IBM eServer xSeries 346 8841 - IBM eServer xSeries 236 8843 - IBM eServer BladeCenter HS20 type 8843 8848 - IBM eServer xSeries 326 8850 - IBM eServer BladeCenter LS20 type 8850 8861 - IBM eServer xSeries 365 8862 - IBM eServer xSeries 365 8863 - IBM eServer xSeries 366 8864 - IBM eServer xSeries 366 8865 - IBM eServer xSeries 260 8870 - IBM eServer xSeries 445 8872 - IBM eServer xSeries 460 8874 - IBM eServer xSeries 460 MXE 4.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number ________________________________________ IBM Support Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support IBM Marketing eserver xSeries Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/eserver/xseries/ If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.pc.ibm.com/planetwide. 5.0 Trademarks and Notices ____________________________ The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM eserver xSeries Broadcom is a registered trademark of Broadcom Corporation. Appendix A: Package Specific Installation Instruction This update is packaged as a self extracting shell script. To update your system, just execute the package with the appropriate options. You must be logged on as root, and the package must be run from an ext2/ext3 filesystem. Usage is as follows: packagename.sh [-?] | [-r] | [-s] | [-xd [device]] | [-x dirname] | [-w] -? Shows the command line help -r Install the package and reboot immediately -s Silent/unattented install -xd [device] Extracts contents to floppy disk(s) If device is not specified, floppy device /dev/fd0 is taken as the default. -x dirname Extracts contents to directory specified -w Save track0 to track01.sav and wipe boot sector (assumes -r) UpdateXpress packages use a portion of track0 of the first logical hard drive to store boot information for the virtual floppy environment. Normally, the only data contained on this track is the master boot record (MBR). Occasionally, updates will fail if there is no room to store the boot information on track0. If the update fails, execute the package with the -s -w options. This will erase track0 of the hard drive while preserving the MBR; install the virtual floppy on the drive, and then reboot the system to perform the update. The data contained in track0 is backed up in a file named track0.sav Please Note: The package update for Linux ONLY supports ext2/ext3 filesystems!
