       1.0   Overview

              1.1  This README file contains the latest information about recovering
                   the IBM POST/BIOS code in the event of an update failure.

        3.0   Installation and Setup Instructions

               The procedure to recover the POST/BIOS is as follows:

              3.1  Remove AC power from the system.

              3.2  Remove the top cover from the system.

              3.3  Remove the Boot Block jumper (J1) from its original location
                   covering pins 1 and 2.

              3.4  Insert the "IBM IntelliStation M40 BIOS Crisis Recovery 
                   Diskette" into external USB floppy diskette drive A.

              3.5  Replace the top cover and reapply AC power to the system.

              3.6  The system will boot into a special recovery mode.  

                   Note: There may be several minutes of apparent inactivity 
                   during this process.

              3.7  After the recovery, remove AC power from the system.

              3.8  Remove the top cover from the system.

              3.9  Put the Boot Block jumper (J1) cap back its original location
                   for normal operation covering pins 1 and 2.

              3.10 Replace the top cover and remove the "IBM IntelliStation M40 
                   System BIOS Crisis Recovery Diskette" from external USB floppy 
                   diskette drive A.

              3.11 Verify that the DMI/SMBIOS strings are correct for the  
                   IBM IntelliStation M40 system. Reprogramming the DMI/SMBIOS 
                   strings may be necessary.
