README.txt for Tapetool for 3600-109, 3600-R20, and 3600-220 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The enclosed files will enable IBM 3600 autoloader and library customers to update the firmware on the robot and drives built into the 3600 series tape backup units. The cdrom build by the ISO image is built as a bootable CD and if booted to can automatically perform a scan to check the firmware levels and update the 3600 and enclosed drives if necessary. This utility can also be applied from a command prompt in Windows. Both the 3600 autoloader and libraries need to be rebooted if the firmware is updated. A Library power cycle as well as a host system reboot is required. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tapedrv.exe -- IBM Tape Device Firmware Utility - Version 9.0 Step by step command line application of the firmware update program. 1. Create the the CD from the CD ISO image file. 2. Insert the created CD in the server which is physically attached(via the SCSI cable or fibre controller card) to the 3600 tape backup unit. 3. Open a DOS command prompt. 4. Change directory to the CDROM assigned drive letter. 5. Type "tapedrv autoupdate /p e:\drivemic". 6. Press enter. 7. The update applet will automatically scan and check the firmware status updating the 3600 if necessary. Usage Hints ----------- Device drivers must be loaded in order for the applet to recognize hardware when being run at a command prompt. To run the status simulation, use a command similar to: \tapedrv\tapedrv statussim [/r] [/o outfile] To run the autoupdate simulation, use a command similar to: \tapedrv\tapedrv autosim For any of the commands status, statussim, autoupdate, autosim, a log file may optionally be created by adding a /l parameter. Once firmware files are accumulated in a directory (e.g., \FIRMWARE), re-run the autoupdate commands, using a commands similar to: \tapedrv\tapedrv autosim /p \FIRMWARE \tapedrv\tapedrv autoupdate /p \FIRMWARE
