Some of the features include: · Timely and accurate detection of I/O failures · Local and remote management of adapters · Device \ Port Configuration for fail-over capability (Linux) · Performance statistics · Central control point in a network environment · Diagnostics & utilities 2.0 CHANGE HISTORY ------------------ 008/21/2001: Initial release version 2.0 3.0 OS SUPPORT -------------- This application has been tested with Windows NT 4.0 SP6, Windows 2000 SP2,Novell NetWare 5.1 and Linux Red Hat 7.1 upgraded to Kernel 2.4.3-12. 4.0 COMPONENTS -------------- IBM FAStT MSJ consists of the following components. · IBM FAStT MSJ Application: This is a Java based GUI application that runs on any Windows NT\W2K system or Linux system network-connected to the servers and that manages the Host Bus adapters on those servers. · IBM FAStT MSJ Agent: This software is required on systems where the Host Bus adapters reside. · IBM FAStT MSJ NetWare Agent: This software is required on Novell NetWare systems where the Host BUS adapters reside. This software is installed from an NT\W2K client system connected to the Novell system. . Wrap Connector and Coupler The IBM FAStT Host Bus Adapter (2200) supports Full Duplex mode which enables loop back capability. A wrap connector/coupler assembly P/N 75G2725 is available to assist in isolating loop problems. You can obtain a wrap connector assembly from Mechanicsburg or contact IBM Level 2 Support. Note: Do not use any other wrap connector such as those supplied with Switches (wrap connectors P/N 16G5609 or 86F1180). They are not compatible with the adapters and will give erroneous results. 5.0 CONFIGURATION ----------------- The configurations that FAStT MSJ supports can be divided into two types: Stand-alone and Networked. 5.1 STAND-ALONE If you will manage the Host Bus adapter installed in a stand-alone system, install the FAStT MSJ GUI and FAStT MSJ NT (Windows Platform) or Linux Agent (Red Hat Linux Platforms) on the local system. 5.2 NETWORKED If you will manage the Host Bus adapter residing in a remote system in a Windows or Linux environment, install the FAStT MSJ GUI on a management system. In this case, only the FAStT Windows NT4/2000 or Linux Agent needs to be installed on the remote system. Note that a management system may contain HBAs and therefore the agent should also be installed on that system. If the remote system is a NetWare server, only the FAStT Novell NetWare 5.x Agent needs to be installed on the NetWare server. Please refer to the NetWare Requirements section for more details. 6.0 REQUIREMENTS ----------------- 6.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS · IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel HBA or IBM FAStT Fibre Channel HBAs. · Single or Multi-processor Server or Workstation. · Pentium III 450MHz MHz or better,128MB RAM,and a minimum 30MB disk space. 6.2 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS OS · Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server, Enterprise Server, or Workstation with Service Pack 6, or · Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, or Professional · Miniport Drivers: NT: QL2100.sys version 7.04.04.04 NT: QL2200.sys version 8.0.09.06 or later W2K: QL2100.sys version 7.04.03.02 or later W2K: QL2200.sys version 8.0.09.06 or later Note: The above driver levels are required to run FAStT MSJ. · TCP/IP Protocol (for Windows NT, Windows 2000 Remote Management. · Must have Administrative Privileges to perform management functions(NVRAM and Flash modification). 6.3 NETWARE REQUIREMENTS The following items must be present prior to installing the FAStT MSJ NetWare Agent: On the Windows NT/2000 Client: · NetWare Client software (from Novell) · Network protocols - "NWLink IPX/SPX compatible transport" and - "NWLink NetBios" (for Remote Management) · Map drive letter to SYS volume of NetWare server NOTE: You must be logged in as an ADMINISTRATOR. This can be done using two methods: 1) The default is to manually load the agent. Type the following at the NetWare prompt: :RPCSTART :QLremote 2) The Agents was added to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file but rem'd out. · If you want the agent to start automatically, edit the AUTOEXEC.NCF to clear the REM for RPCSTART and QLREMOTE. · Restart the NetWare server. The Agent and its components will automatically be loaded. 9.2 Linux system The qlremote agent does not start automatically when FAStT MSJ is launched. 9.2.1. Ensure that you are in a graphical user environment. 9.2.2 To start qlremote, open a command terminal from the root directory and type: qlremote 9.2.3. Change to the usr directory in which the IBM FAStT MSJ script is installed and Type: cd /usr 9.2.4. Enter ./FAStT_MSJ 9.2.5 When FAStT MSJ is no longer required, Close the terminal window where qLremote is running and also stop qlremote. From a command terminal type: killall -TERM qlremote. You should get a "no process killed" message. Note: Ensure that no I/O's are occurring when qlremote is running. Please refer to the online help file or the User's Guide for more information. To view the online help, go to Help and "Set Browser Location" to match the location where your preferred browser is located. FAStT MSJ supports Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or greater) or Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). You may now browse the Help file by selecting "Browse Contents". 10.0 Uninstalling FAStT MSJ ---------------------------- 10.1 Be sure to exit the FAStT MSJ application before you uninstall FAStT MSJ. 10.2 Uninstall the NetWare agent from the Windows 2000 or Windows NT drive mapped to the Novell NetWare server. 10.3 FAStT MSJ Uninstaller for Windows OS 10.3.1 From a Windows 2000/Windows NT system, click the Start button, click Programs-->IBM FAStT MSJ--> FAStT MSJ Uninstaller. 10.4 FAStT MSJ Uninstaller script for the Red Hat Linux system 10.4.1 Change to the directory where you installed the FAStT MSJ scripts. For example, enter:cd /usr 10.4.2 Type the following to run the InstallAnywhere Uninstaller. ./FAStT_MSJ_Uninstaller 11.0 LIMITATIONS ----------------- 11.1 Device \ Port Configuration for fail-over capability is only supported for Red Hat Linux. 11.2 For Windows 2000 system with adapters ensure the following driver parameters are set in the registry: Portname=1 Pseudo=2 Driver Parameters can be verified or changed using regedit. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services-> ql2xxx->Parameters->Device 11.3 If multiple NICs (Network Interface Cards) are present in the system, the FAStT MSJ client will broadcast to the first IP address subnet based on the binding order. Therefore, ensure that the NIC for the local subnet is first in the binding order. If this is not done, the diagnostics might not run properly and remote connection might not occur. 11.4 If the RH 7.1 system has the firewall installed this could cause issues with async alarms from the agent running on Linux to a remote machine. This could also occur if the GUI is running on a Linux Client talking to a remote machine. To circumvent this problem do the following at a shell prompt: chkconfig --list Verify that "check ipchains and iptable in run levels 2, 3, 4, 5" are disabled. to disable at a specific run level chkconfig --level 2 ipchains off chkconfig --level 3 ipchains off chkconfig --level 4 ipchains off chkconfig --level 5 ipchains off chkconfig --level 2 iptable off chkconfig --level 3 iptable off chkconfig --level 4 iptable off chkconfig --level 5 iptable off 11.5 The FAStT MSJ application tries to help in not allowing the user to connect to the same host more than once (causes issues with policies and wasted system resources). This adds the requirement that all host IP address MUST resolve to a host name to allow connection to complete. If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the system where you are running the FAStT MSJ GUI and add the host name to IP mapping manually. W2K\NT: :\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Linux: /etc/hosts 11.6 Updating the Flash BIOS is not supported for NetWare at this time. 11.7 When a FAStT Fibre Channel HBA (QLA2200) adapter is connected to the Fabric, Loopback test is disabled since the adapter is in a point to point mode. unplugging the cable from the Fabric and inserting a wrap connector at the end of the cable (or at the adapter) will enable loopback test. If the QL2200 IP Network Driver is installed on the system, the adapter will remain in point to point mode. 11.8 The FAStT MSJ online web help can only be viewed by Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or greater) or Netscape Communicator (version 4.5or greater). 11.9 The File Selectors in FAStT MSJ at times does not respond to double click selection of folders. The work around for now is to select the folder and click the Open button to the right to traverse the directory or open a specific file. 12.0 WEB SITES AND SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER ---------------------------------------- 12.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support 12.2 IBM eServer xSeries Marketing Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/us/eserver/xseries/index.html 12.3 If you have any questions or problems about this package go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide 13.0 TRADEMARKS AND NOTICES ---------------------------- 13.1 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Microsoft, Windows, and Windows 2000 are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both.
