This utility is used to initialize the Adaptec settings located in the Serial EEPROM. A limited number of IBM eserver xSeries 232(8668), IBM eserver xSeries 342(8669) were shipped with the active level termination setting for the onboard SCSI Controller set incorrectly. This diskette initializes the settings and allows the system to correct the setting on a following reboot. 1.2 Limitations - For use only on IBM eserver xSeries 232(8668), IBM eserver xSeries 342(8669) 1.3 Enhancements - NA 1.4 Level of Recomendations and Prerequisites for the Upate: For use only on IBM eserver xSeries 232(8668), IBM eserver xSeries 342(8669) 1.5 Dependencies - NA 2.0 Change History V1.00 ---------------------- - Initial release. 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions The procedure to update the POST/BIOS is as follows: 3.1 Insert the "IBM Serial EEPROM Initialization Diskette" into drive A. 3.2 Start up or restart your IBM eserver xSeries 232(8668), IBM eserver xSeries 342(8669). 3.3 The system will boot off of the diskette and prompt the user to press any key to erase the SCSI configuration info. Specifically the prompt will be the following: This utility will erase the SCSI Configuration information. After erasing, the default configuration will be loaded. Press any key to continue. 3.4 After you press any key to erase the SCSI Configuration, another prompt will be displayed to reboot the system. Specifically the prompt will be the following: Serial Eprom Erased Successfully The default values will be loaded after rebooting. Press any key to reboot. 3.5 Remove the diskette and press any key to reboot the server. 3.6 At this point, when the server gets to the point in POST where it is loading the BIOS the EEPROM will be loaded with the correct SCSI configuration information. In addition the following message will be displayed: AIC-7899 A at slot 00, 02:09:00 SEEPROM checksum error has been corrected. AIC-7899 B at slot 00, 02:09:01 SEEPROM checksum error has been corrected. Press any key to reboot. 3.7 After you press any key to reboot the system, one final message will be displayed when the system is loading the BIOS for the Adaptec SCSI controller. The message is as follows: A mismatched single image master configuration has been detected. This message is OK and will only be seen the one time. This message is due to the initializing the EEPROM and then loading a new configuration on the next reboot. 4.0 Configuration Information - NA 5.0 Unattended Mode- NA 6.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number 6.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/support 6.2 IBM Marketing Web Site: http://www.pc.ibm.com/ww/eserver/xseries 6.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.pc.ibm.com/qtechinfo/YAST-3P2QYL.html. 7.0 Trademarks and Notices THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
