IBM Advanced System Management Drivers for Linux ------------------------------------------------ CONTENTS -------- 1.0 Overview 2.0 Change History 3.0 System Management Device Driver installation instructions 4.0 Disclaimer 1.0 Overview ------------- This tarfile contains RPM package files, which in turn contain the Linux device drivers for both the Netfinity Advanced System Management PCI Adapter card and the Netfinity Advanced System Management Processor hardware built into the planar of some Netfinity Servers. This tarfile contains this readme file and the following RPM file : ibmasm-src-1.0-5.3.i386.rpm (hereby known as ibmasm-src) ibmasm-src contains the open source code for the driver. It is meant to be installed on a "build" system. Installing the ibmasm-src RPM will build the driver locally for the currently running kernel version, and will then generate a customized RPM (mimicing the ibmasm RPM) containing the driver built for that kernel version. Note that it does not install any drivers on the build machine - it merely generates them for installation on other machines. 2.0 Change History ------------------- 2.1 Netfinity Advanced System Management Device Driver - Linux version 1.00 Initial release 3.0 System Management Device Driver installation instructions -------------------------------------------------------------- For installation information, please consult the documentation embedded in the RPM as follows : rpm -qip ibmasm-src-1.0-5.3.i386.rpm You may also redirect the output into a text file for future reference as well. Because there are no executables for the user to run, there is no real documentation other than installation documentation. NOTE - It is recommended when upgrading from any version of an ibmasm-related package prior to version 5.3, that you NOT use the -U upgrade flag with rpm. Instead, first remove the old version with -e, then install the 5.3 version with -ivh. This is partly due to some changes in the installation procedure, and some file locations. 4.0 Disclaimer --------------- 4.1 THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
