This software is installed from an NT\W2K client system connected to the Novell system. . Wrap Connector and Coupler The IBM FAStT Host Bus Adapters (2200 and above) support Full Duplex mode which enables loop back capability. To assist you in isolating HBA loop problems, a wrap connector/coupler assembly P/N 75G2725 can be obtained from Mechanicsburg or by contacting IBM Level 2 Support. For the 2300 a wrap plug P/N 11P3847 and coupler P/N 05N6766 are included in the FAStT 700 Storage Servers carton. You can also obtain them from Mechanicsburg as a kit (P/N 24P0950). Note: Do not use any other wrap connector such as those supplied with Switches (wrap connectors P/N 16G5609 or 86F1180). They are not compatible with the adapters and will give erroneous results. ==================================================================== 5.0 CONFIGURATION ----------------- The configurations that FAStT MSJ supports can be divided into two types: Stand-alone and Networked. 5.1 STAND-ALONE --------------- If you will manage the Host Bus adapter installed in a stand-alone system, install the FAStT MSJ GUI and Agent (Windows Platform). 5.2 NETWORKED ------------- If you will manage the Host Bus adapter residing in a remote system in a Windows environment, install the FAStT MSJ GUI on a management system. In this case, only the FAStT Windows NT4/2000 agent needs to be installed in the remote system. Note that a management system may contain HBAs and therefore the agent should also be installed on that system. If the remote system is a NetWare server, only the FAStT Novell NetWare Agent needs to be installed on the NetWare server. Please refer to the NetWare Requirements section for more details. ==================================================================== 6.0 REQUIREMENTS ----------------- 6.1 HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS + IBM FAStT Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters. + Single or Multi-processor Server or Workstation. + Pentium III 450MHz MHz or better,128MB RAM,and a minimum 30MB disk space. 6.2 SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS OS + Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server, Enterprise Server, or Workstation with Service Pack 6, or + Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, or Professional + Miniport Drivers: NT: QL2100.sys version 7.04.04.04 or later W2K: QL2100.sys version 7.04.03.02 or later NT\W2K: QL2200.sys version 8.1.5.62 or later NT\W2K: QL2300.sys version 8.1.5.62 or later Note: The above driver levels are required to run FAStT MSJ. + TCP/IP Protocol (for Windows NT, Windows 2000 Remote Management. + Must have Administrative Privileges to perform management functions(NVRAM and Flash modification). 6.3 NETWARE REQUIREMENTS The following items must be present prior to installing the FAStT MSJ NetWare Agent: On the Windows NT/2000 Client: + NetWare Client software (from Novell) + Network protocols - TCP/IP Protocol + Map drive letter to SYS volume of NetWare server NOTE: You must be logged in as an ADMINISTRATOR. WIN32-NetWare - README.txt (this file) Note: The README file that is on this CD takes precedence over the one that is displayed and installed when FAStT MSJ setup is run. - FAStTMSJ_install.exe (the install file for FAStT MSJ Windows and Netware) - The FAStT MSJ User's guide - Diagnostic Netware drivers 6.50k for the following HBA: - Netware Diagnostic driver 6.50k for the Netfinity Fibre Channel HBA (2100) Note: These diagnostic only drivers should be removed from the customer systems once FAStT MSJ is no longer required. 7.2 WEB Download ---------------- The package includes the following: - README.txt (the Readme file for FAStT MSJ) Note: The README file that is part of this self extracting file takes precedence over the one that is displayed and installed when FAStT MSJ setup is run. - FAStTMSJ_install.exe (the install file for FAStT MSJ Windows and Netware) - The FAStT MSJ User's guide - Netware Diagnostic driver 6.50k for the Netfinity Fibre Channel HBA (2100) The package will extract to the C:\TEMP\FAStTMSJ directory. 7.3 Installation ---------------- The FAStTMSJ Install.exe installs the FAStT MSJ Application. Depending on your requirements, not all components may be installed. Important: If FAStT MSJ is already installed, un-install it prior to installing a new copy. 1. Execute FAStTMSJ_Install.exe file and follow the on-screen instructions. 2. At the "Choose Product Features" screen, select the desired installation: GUI and NT Agent GUI NT Agent Netware Agent Custom Select "Custom" to customize your installation. 3. Choose the Destination Location. The default is: :\Program Files\IBM FAStT MSJ. 4. If installing the FAStT MSJ NetWare Agent, the installation will display a "Choose Destination Location" screen. Use the "Browse" button to point to the "\SYSTEM" directory on the NetWare "SYS" Volume. The installer will automatically save the agent in the appropriate Netware volume (SYS). NOTE 1: Remember the drive letter must be mapped to the root of the NetWare "SYS" Volume. ==================================================================== 8.0 RUNNING FAStT MSJ ---------------------- Once the application has been installed, launch it. The procedure is OS dependent. Note: The default FAStT MSJ password is "config". Make sure you change this password after installation to ensure that security is not compromised. To enter a new Password you must have Administrative Privileges. You cannot perform management functions and NVRAM\Flash modification unless you set a Password for FAStT MSJ. 8.1 Windows NT/W2K and Netware ------------------------------ If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the systems where you are running the FAStT MSJ GUI and/or the QLremote agent. Add the host name to IP mapping manually. Edit the file /etc/hosts. For W2K\NT the location of the local host file is: :\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts If NW6.0 is installed without IPX selected, the server will not assign a SERVERID number. Be sure to then add this line to the autoexec.ncf file. Add the following line to the Autoexec.ncf after the line for File Server Name: SERVERID 1234567 (enter your own server id number. By default this is a 7 digit number.) 1. Click on the IBM FAStT MSJ icon on the Desktop or Click on Start-->Programs-->IBM FAStT MSJ-->FAST MSJ 2. For Netware make sure the agent on the Netware Server is started. This can be done by using two methods: 1) The default is to manually load the agent. Type the following at the NetWare prompt: RPCSTART qlremote 2) The Agent was automatically added to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file but rem'd out. + If you want the agent to start automatically, edit the AUTOEXEC.NCF to clear the REM for RPCSTART and QLREMOTE. + Restart the NetWare server. The Agent and its components will automatically be loaded. Please refer to the online help file or the User's Guide for more information. To view the online help, go to Help and "Set Browser Location" to match the location where your preferred browser is located. FAStT MSJ supports Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or greater) or Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). You may now browse the Help file by selecting "Browse Contents". ==================================================================== 9.0 Uninstalling FAStT MSJ ---------------------------- 1. Be sure to exit the FAStT MSJ application before you uninstall FAStT MSJ. 2. Uninstall the NetWare agent from the Windows 2000 or Windows NT drive mapped to the Novell NetWare server. 3. FAStT MSJ Uninstaller for Windows OS From a Windows 2000/Windows NT system, click the Start button, click Programs-->IBM FAStT MSJ-->FAStT MSJ Uninstaller. ==================================================================== 10.0 LIMITATIONS ----------------- + Device \ Port Configuration for fail-over capability is not supported for W2K, NT and Netware. IBM Storage Manager is used for this purpose. + For Windows 2000 systems with FAStT HBAs ensure the following driver parameters are set in the registry: Portname=1 Pseudo=2 Driver Parameters can be verified or changed using regedit. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services-> ql2xxx->Parameters->Device + If multiple NICs (Network Interface Cards) are present in the system, the FAStT MSJ client will broadcast to the first IP address subnet based on the binding order. Therefore, ensure that the NIC for the local subnet is first in the binding order. If this is not done, the diagnostics may not run properly and remote connection may not occur. + The FAStT MSJ application tries to help in not allowing the user to connect to the same host more than once (causes issues with policies and wasted system resources). This adds the requirement that all host IP address MUST resolve to a host name to allow connection to complete. + If DNS is not used you must edit the local host file on the systems where you are running the FAStT MSJ GUI and the QLremote agent. Add the host name to IP mapping manually. Edit the file /etc/hosts. For W2K\NT the location of the local host file is: :\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts + If NW6.0 is installed without IPX selected, the server will not assign a SERVERID number. Be sure to then add this line to the autoexec.ncf file. Add the following line to the Autoexec.ncf after the line for File Server Name: SERVERID 1234567 (enter your own server id number. By default this is a 7 digit number.) + Updating the Flash BIOS is not supported for NetWare. + When a FAStT Fibre Channel HBA (QL2200 or 2300) is connected to the Fabric (switch), Loopback test is disabled since the adapter is in a point to point mode. Unplugging the cable from the Fabric and inserting a wrap connector at the end of the cable (or at the adapter) will enable loopback test. However, if the HBA IP Network Driver is running on the system, the adapter will remain in point to point mode. + The FAStT MSJ online web help can only be viewed by Internet Explorer (version 4.0 or greater) or Netscape Communicator (version 4.5 or greater). + The File Selectors in FAStT MSJ at times does not respond to double click selection of folders. The work around for now is to select the folder and click the Open button to the right to traverse the directory or open a specific file. + Netware requires that LUNs be present to run the diagnostics. If you cannot create LUNs due to hardware or software problems, load the Netware driver with the /LUNZERO parameter. This will allow you to run the Read/Write Buffer diagnostics. When the problem is resolved, reload the driver without the /LUNZERO parameter. + In Netware, if a device fails during the Read/Write Buffer diagnostics and a subsequent configuration refresh occurs, the device will be dropped from the respective HBA tree. + When an online device fails and goes offline and a subsequent configuration refresh occurs, the loop id for that device does not reflect the original ID since the device is in effect no longer in the loop (may show x100 or xff). + When a failure occurs during Diagnostics (Loopback test and Read/Write Buffer test) and the test is restarted immediately, MSJ may request whether or not you want to refresh the configuration. Select NO to continue the test. If YES is selected the Host may be disconnected with the following message: "Unable to connect to the Host: {Host Name / IP address}. The Host is currently in diagnostics mode, try again later." To recover, you need to stop and restart the agent "qlremote" in the Windows Services dialog (W2K right click on My Computer -->Manage--> Services--> Qlogic Management Suite Java Agent. NT use Control Panel-->Services. Netware, Unload qlremote and reload it). + Automatic application of Configuration Changes does not function when applied to a Netfinity FC Host Bus Adapter (2100). Click Refresh to detect configuraton changes. ==================================================================== 11.0 WEB SITES AND SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER ---------------------------------------- 11.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support 11.2 IBM eServer xSeries Marketing Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/us/eserver/xseries/index.html 11.3 If you have any questions or problems about this package go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide ==================================================================== 12.0 TRADEMARKS AND NOTICES ---------------------------- 12.1 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Microsoft, Windows, and Windows 2000 are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both.
