If you do not install the service pack, the drivers will not respond correctly and Windows NT will default to VGA operation only. Service Pack's are available for free download from Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/. 2.0 Change History To install the video device driver: 1. With the S500 series card installed in the system, boot Windows NT 4.0 in VGA mode: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message is displayed, select WINDOWS NT WORKSTATION VERSION 4.00 [VGA MODE]. 2. When NT finishes loading, log in as a user that has permissions to change system settings. Login as Administrator is reccomended. 3. Click on the START button, select SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. 4. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The Display Properties window appears. Note: You can also display the Display Properties window by clicking the right mouse button anywhere on the Desktop and then selecting the PROPERTIES option from the pop-up menu. 5. Click on the SETTINGS tab. 6. Click on the DISPLAY TYPE button. The Display Type window appears. 7. Under Adapter Type, click on the CHANGE button. 8. In the Change Display window, click on the HAVE DISK button. o If prompted for the driver diskette in drive A:, click on the CANCEL button. 9. Select the computer directory or CDROM directory containing the S500 series video device driver for Windows NT 4.0 then click on the OK button. 10. From the list of displayed devices, select your S500 series device; then click on the OK button. 11. In the Third-party Drivers window, click on the YES button to proceed. o If a message appears stating the driver is already installed on the system, and asks if you want to use the current or new drivers, be sure to select the NEW button. 12. When the message "The drivers were successfully installed" is displayed click on the OK button. 13. In the Display Type window, click on the CLOSE button. 14. In the Display Properties window, click on the CLOSE button. 15. When the System Settings Change window appears with a message asking if you want to restart your computer, click on YES. S500 series display driver is now complete. 4.0 Configuration Information 4.0.1 Configuring Your Monitor o To configure a brand new monitor, refer back to section 1.0 on how to install the video device driver for Windows NT 4.0. o To configure a Non-DDC monitor: 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click the right mouse button on the Desktop; then select PROPERTIES from the pop-up menu. 3. In the Display Properties window, click on the SETTINGS tab; then click on the DISPLAY TYPE button. 4. In the Display Type window, click on the CHANGE button. The Change Display window appears. 5. Under Manufacturers, click on Diamond Stealth III Inc.; then under Display, click on the applicable device. 6. Click on the OK button and follow the instructions on the screen. 7. Close the windows you opened; then restart Windows NT if prompted. 4.0.2 Changing the Video Settings o To change the video settings: 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click on the START button, select SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The Display Properties window appears. 4. In the Display Properties window, click on the SETTINGS tab. 5. Make the desired changes to any of the color palette, font size, desktop area, or refresh frequency; then click on TEST, OK, and then YES. 6. When the changes are satisfactory, click on APPLY and then YES to resize the display dynamically. 4.1 Setting Your Monitor to VGA Mode o To set your monitor to VGA mode: 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Click on the START button, select SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The Display Properties window appears. 4. In the Display Properties window, click on the SETTINGS tab. 5. Click on the DISPLAY TYPE button. The Display Type window appears. 6. Under Adapter Type, click on the CHANGE button. 7. Under Manufacturers, click on STANDARD DISPLAY TYPES; under Display, click on VGA COMPATIBLE DISPLAY ADAPTER; then click on OK. 8. Insert the appropriate Windows diskettes or CD-ROM, if requested. 9. Click on OK, CLOSE, CLOSE, and then YES to restart your computer. 5.0 Unattended Mode To install this software unattended: 1. Copy all the files from the diskette to a working directory 2. Edit the S3INST.DAT file with appropriate values 3. Execute S3INST.EXE Note: The auto-installer cannot detect hardware. The user is responsible for providing valid input in the S3INST.DAT file.
