To support this upgrade, the MPA console and server pieces are modified with this installation. 1.1 Enhancements The focus of this release is to provide the customer with support for the new RXE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure hardware. The next IBM Director release (IBM Director 3.1 Service Pack 1) will include these changes. 1.2 Prerequisites This update is for systems currently using IBM Director, version 3.1 only, with the Management Processor Assistant extension. The MPA extension may be installed through the main IBM Director 3.1 setup program. 2.0 INSTALLATION AND SETUP INSTRUCTIONS NOTE: This release requires administrator priviledges to install. 2.1 Where to install This eFix should be installed on machines which use the IBM Director Server or Console to manage servers with a connected RXE-100. 2.2 How to install This eFix should be installed by running the enclosed setup.exe and then following the prompts. 3.0 USAGE INFORMATION This section contains general information which a user should know but that may not be sufficiently documented in the User Guide. 3.1 Eventing RXE-100 events which are not side specific will be reported for each side. This may result in the user seeing two duplicate events in the Director event log if both sides are connected to a single server. 3.2 Firmware Update Support This section outlines what type of firmware can be updated with what type of connection to your management hardware. Note that not all firmware update types are applicable in all situations. 3.2.1 Remote Supervisor Adapter The Remote Supervisor Adapter is managed through direct Inband connection, direct TCP/IP connection, direct serial connection, or through the System Management Interconnect from another Remote Supervisor Adapter. With these connections, a user updates the firmware of the Remote Supervisor Adapter and the System BIOS. When the Remote Supervisor Adapter is added to a system containing an Advanced System Management processor, the BIOS Firmware option will not be available. Updates of the Server BIOS must be made using the integrated ASM. 3.2.2 Advanced System Management Processor (ASM) The integrated Advanced System Management processor receives data through a direct Inband connection, a direct serial connection, and through the System Management Interconnect from either a Remote Supervisor Adapter, another ASM, or an Advanced System Management PCI Adapter (ASMP). When connected Inband through the device driver, no firmware updates are available. Updates to ASM firmware and Server BIOS are allowed when connected through direct serial connection or through the System Management Interconnect. 3.2.3 Advanced System Management PCI Adapter (ASMP) The ASMP receives data through direct Inband Connection in the NF7000 M10 and NF8500, direct TCP/IP connection, direct serial connection, and through the System Management Interconnect from either a Remote Supervisor Adapter, an ASM, or another ASMP. When connected Inband through the device driver, only the service processor firmware is updated. Server BIOS and the ASMP firmware is updated by through the other described connections. The server must be powered off prior to initiating a BIOS update operation. When the ASMP is added to a server which contains an integrated ASM, only the ASMP firmware can be updated. Updates of the Server BIOS must be made using the integrated ASM. 3.3 System Backplane VPD The System Backplane VPD will always be blank since there is no System Backplane on the RXE-100. 4.0 TRADEMARKS The following product name is a trademark of IBM Corporation: o IBM 5.0 NOTICES INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION PROVIDES THIS PUBLICATION "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF NON-INFRINGEMENT, MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
