The following document contains instructions to install the IBM DLT1 tape drive driver for the Windows NT 4.0 Intel platform. This driver is for the Intel Platform only. Correct TAPE_DRIVE_LOCK_UNLOCK status MAKING AN INSTALLATION DISKETTE: After running the executable file, there will be 4 additional files in the directory. These are: README.TXT OEMSETUP.INF Bnchtape.SYS DISK1 To make the installation diskette, copy the following files to a formatted 3 1/2 inch floppy disk. OEMSETUP.INF Bnchtape.SYS DISK1 Note: The default settings for Windows Explorer is to hide files of type ".SYS". In order to view the driver in the Explorer, select the "View" menu. Select "Options..." Select the "View" tab. Select "Show all files". It is highly recommended that this setting be returned to its default setting, "Hide files of these types" when you are finished installing the driver. Note: You must have 'administrative' priviledges in order to install drivers. INSTALLING THE DRIVER: Installing the driver for IBM DLT1: 1. Shutdown Windows NT 4.0 if it is running and power down the system. 2. Connect the DLT1 tape drive to the system. Ensure the SCSI bus is terminated correctly and that there are no target ID conflicts. Note: (It is also advisable to have tape devices on a bus separate from the OS disk bus) 3. Startup the system and log into Windows NT. 4. From the "Start" menu, bring up the Windows NT control panel. 5. Select the "Tape Drive" icon from the control panel. The system scans for installed tape devices. 5a. Previously Installed Drivers - If the Tape Devices dialogue box indicates that an older version of DLT driver is installed, you should remove it. Click on the "DRIVERS" tab. Highlight the older version driver and select "Remove". After the driver is removed select "Add". Continue at step 6. 5b. If the tape drive is displayed with "Driver Not Started", Click on the "DRIVERS" tab. When the next window is displayed select "Add". 6. In the Install Driver dialog box, click on Have Disk. The Install from disk dialog box is displayed. 7. Insert the disk containing the Bnchtape.sys driver into a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive. Change the drive letter in the Copy From field to the floppy drive and click OK. A new Install Driver dialog box is displayed. 8. Double click on: "IBM Digital Linear Tape NT4.0 Ver 1.5". The New Tape Device Found dialog box may be displayed. 9. If the New SCSI Tape Device Found Dialog is displayed click OK. The Windows NT Setup dialog box is displayed. 10. In the Windows NT Setup dialog box, change the source drive letter to the directory or floppy drive containing the driver file (Bnchtape.sys). Click Continue. 11. The Tape Device Dialog box is displayed again. Click OK. The driver will be installed on the machine. Click New if previous version of driver was detected. 12. When installation is complete, close the control panel. You must reboot Windows NT. After rebooting, ensure the driver is installed by checking the Tape Devices in the control panel.
