Drivers/Client tools for IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card (P/N 09N9863, 09N9904, and 09N9906) for Windows 2000 File Contents: --------------- This self-extracting EXE file contains the client software, drivers, and firmware for the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card. Instructions are listed below for new installations and for upgrades. Installation Instructions: --------------- 1. Use Windows Explorer to find the WIN2KWL.EXE file that was downloaded and double click on it. Make sure the file was downloaded into the intended install directory, usually C:\wlan. You may need to create the directory and copy the file into it or you may select any directory you want. Just remember where the file is located. An extraction window may appear. If it dose, click on the "EXTRACT" button. NOTE (If a window "Create C:\wlan directory?" appears, Click YES). Make sure default directory is C:\wlan or the directory you want to use, this is where you want the file to extract itself into. If you chose to extract to another directory, use that directory in the following instructions instead of "C:\wlan". Follow instructions below for each task you wish to do: NEW INSTALLATION OF CLIENT MANAGER INSTRUCTIONS: a) Click "START" > "RUN". b) Enter "C:\wlan\setup.exe" c) Click "OK". d) Follow the on-screen instructions. UPGRADE EXISTING CLIENT MANAGER INSTRUCTIONS: a) Click "START" > "SETTINGS" > "CONTROL PANEL" b) Double-click on "Add-Remove Programs" c) Click on "IBM Client Manager" d) Click on "Remove" e) Follow the instructions for NEW CLIENT MANAGER INSTALLATION above. NEW INSTALLATION OF IBM WIRELESS LAN PC CARD AND DRIVERS: NOTE: The Client Manager Software must be installed prior to the PC Card and driver installation. NOTE: The PC CARD driver MUST be installed before the PC Card is inserted into the system. Please do not insert the card until the instructions indicate. a) Click "START" > "RUN". b) Enter "C:\wlan\win_2000\setup.exe." c) Click "OK." d) Follow the on-screen instructions. e) Insert the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card into the laptop. This should automatically start Windows Add Hardware Wizard. f) Follow the on-screen instructions. g) When the Add Hardware Wizard asks for the manufacturer's disk, enter "C:\program files\IBM\wireless LAN\driver", then click "OK", then click "Next". Follow on screen Instructions. h) When, Add/Edit Configuration Profile Window appears, click "Edit Profile" button. In Network Name box, enter the name of the wireless network name supplied by the network administrator. Then click "OK", click "OK", click "Finish". See: note 1 i) You must complete the Network Configuration Settings. See: System Administrator for information. j) Restart your Computer. Note 1: When card is installed on an IBM ThinkPad 600, this step will take place after the computer has been restarted. TO UPGRADE THE DRIVERS FOR A CARD YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED: (Important: Ensure that new driver has been copied to the hard drive. See steps a through d under New installation of IBM Wireless LAN PC Card and Drivers) a) Click "START" > "SETTINGS" > "CONTROL PANEL" b) Double-click on "System." c) Click the "Hardware" tab. d) Click on "Device Manager." e) Double-click on "Network Adapters" f) Double-click on "IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC card" g) Click on "Driver" tab. h) Click the "Update Driver" button. i) Click the "Next" button. j) Click on "Display a list of known drivers for this device so I can choose a specific driver" radio button. k) Click the "Next" button. l) Click the "Have Disk" button. m) Enter "C:\program files\IBM\wireless LAN\driver". n) Click on "OK".Select "IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card", click "Next" o) Follow the on-screen instructions p) Note: If an Error message appears stating that the Target file exists and is a different language than the source, ignore message and click "OK" TO UPGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE: a) Click "START" > "RUN" b) Enter "C:\wlan\wsu10616.exe" c) Click "OK" d) Follow the on-screen instructions.
