KNOWN ISSUES ------------- - Limitation Windows NT4.0 with IBM 802.11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter installed. Using the IBM Client Utility application when changing profiles that are on a different subnets the IP address configuration does NOT automatically change. The profile name and SSID is successfully changed. To force the change of ip configuration: 1. Open a DOS mode window 2. Type ipconfig/release. A message will appear confirming that you had release the current IP address of the adapter. 3. Type ipconfig/renew. This will assign correct IP address on the adapter. - If your notebook system has the - IBM Dual-Band (802.11a/b) Wi-Fi Wireless Mini PCI adapter - IBM 11a/b/g Wireless Mini PCI Adapter installed and you install the IBM 11/a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter a conflict will occur and cause a yellow bang in the device manager indicating the 802.11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter is not working properly. This is because the MPCI and CardBus adapters use the same driver and the current driver design does not allow for multiple adapters. The work around is to disable the adapter that you do not want to use in device manager. Installation Instructions for Windows NT 4.0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Windows NT4 logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package to the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start, then click Run. 4. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\11abgwireless\NT4\SETUP.EXE to install the Wireless Client Utility. Click OK start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Reboot Driver Installation NT4 Windows NT 4.0 1. Start Windows NT 4.0. 2. Click "Start", click "Settings" and click "Control Panel". 3. Double-click "Network" icon. 4. If this is the first time to configure the Network, it will display "Network Configuration" dialog box, then proceed to the next step. If not, go to step 14. 5. Click "Yes" button. 6. Select "Wired to the network". 7. Click "Next>" button. 8. Click "Select from list..." button. 9. Click "Have Disk.." button. 10. Type the path to the directory that contains the OEMSETUP.inf file in Insert Disk dialog box. (Driver and OEMSETUP.inf is contained in the NT4/NDIS4 directory) 11. Click "OK" button. 12. Select "11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter". Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter". 13. Follow the instructions that follows and reboot the system. 14. Click "Adapters" tab. 15. Click "Add..." button. 16. Click "Have Disk..." button. 17. Type the path to the directory that contains the OEMSETUP.inf file in Insert Disk dialog box.(Driver and OEMSETUP.inf is contained in the NT4/NDIS4 directory) 18. Click "OK" button. 19. Select "11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter". 20. Click "OK" button. 21. Click "Close" button. 22. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. 23. Click "Yes" when prompted to restart the computer. Silent Installation Instructions -------------------------------- Extract this package to the hard disk - NT4 - Silent Install Atheros Client Utility (ACU): From the Start --->Run window type: C:\drivers\11abgwireless\NT4\setup -s Then select "OK" Windows will now install the ACU software. After install is complete, re-start the computer. -From CD-ROM (If you extracted this package to CD-ROM) From the Start/Run window type: D:\NT4\setup -s -f2c:\setup.log Then select "OK" Windows will now install the ACU software. After install is complete, re-start the computer. Note: D:\ refers to drive letter of the cd-rom drive Enabling Extended Channel Mode ------------------------------ The statement below regarding the extended channel mode is applicable when the system supports this function. To check the support of this function, please see the property of the installed wireless card by referring to the extended channel mode enablement instruction. In countries other than the United States and Canada, you may be allowed to use extra IEEE 802.11b channels. If you cannot connect to an Access Point, contact your system administrator or check your Access Point to find out which channel is being used. If the number of the channel is 12 or greater, enable “Extended Channel Mode” by the following procedure: Extended Channel Mode with Windows NT ------------------------------------- To enable/disable extended channel, do the following: 1. Click Start -> Programs -> IBM 11abg Wireless -> Extended Channel Mode Selector This opens up the Extended Channel Mode selector 2. Click 'Disable' to disable extended channel mode or Click 'Enable' to enable extended channel mode. 3. Click 'Save/Exit' when you have selected the mode you want. A message saying that you must restart your computer for changes to take effect comes up. Click OK. 4. Reboot your computer. Authorized Operation Within the United States and Canada The statement below regarding the extended channel mode is applicable when the system supports this function. To check the support of this function, please see the property of the installed wireless card by referring to the extended channel mode enablement instruction. For systems with 802.11g/802.11b wireless function supporting Extended Channel Mode, This device may only be used with Access Points, which are authorized for use within the geography in which they are being used. The use of this device with an Access Point that is not Wi-Fi compliant and not authorized to be used in your geography could result in violation of government regulations. Consult the network administrator, the instruction manual, or the approval label for the Access Point to determine the authorization of your Access Point in your specific country or geographic region. “Extended Channel Mode” should only be selected when the device is operated outside the USA and Canada to avoid the unlikely possibility of unauthorized operation. The use of this device outside the United States and Canada in “Extended Channel Mode” may use frequencies not authorized for use in the United States and Canada. When used with an authorized Wireless Access Point that is Wi-Fi compliant or in Ad Hoc mode, this device will operate in its authorized modes in all geographies. Please reconfigure selected frequencies when you travel from one country to another. Warning: Australia Users Only AdHoc mode should not be selected when operating 802.11g in Australia to avoid the unlikely possibility of unauthorized operation which could result in violation of Australian government regulations. AdHoc mode operating in 802.11a and 802.11b is permitted.
