Important !! Read these instructions prior to attempting the firmware upgrade. TAPE DRIVES CONNECTED TO SCSI CONTROLLERS: The process of updating the firmware requires booting the system to a DOS environment with the appropriate SCSI adapter device drivers loaded. The system cannot flash a 12/24 GB DDS/3 connected to any type RAID controller. To begin system format a diskette(FORMAT A: /S) and direct the extraction of the 1224UPDG.EXE to the diskette. Ten files should now be found on the diskette. The boot diskette is now ready to update a Server 330 with a 12/24 GB DDS/3 attached to the onboard Adaptec controller. If you do not have a Remove any tapes that are currently in the tape drive. The tape drive must not be turned off at any time during the upgrade process. After booting to the diskette at the command prompt type: A:> FWLOAD 2 (# = SCSI ID of the tape device you are upgrading) You will see the followng messages during the upgrade process: Generating >BIN file....... There will be a delay while the drive completes the downloading procedure. Done. This indicates the firmware has downloaded successfully to the tape drive. Remove the diskette and reboot the system. FIRMWARE UPGRADE CONFIRMATION: Firmware Upgrade Confirmation Procedure for OS/2 SYSTEMS Open Netfinity Sevice Manager > System Information Tool > SCSI Subsystem > double click on the Sequencial Access Device and the devices firmware will be shown. Firmware Upgrade Confirmation Procedure for WINDOWS NT 4.0 SYSTEMS 1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Tape Devices > Highlight the Tape Drive (Archive Python or Seagate DAT) and Click Add to add the tape drive that was just upgraded. 2. Restart NT 3. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Tape Devices > Highlight Tape Device > Click Properties > Settings > Confirm that the Firmware revision: 7270. Firmware Upgrade Confirmation Procedure for Netware 3.x, 4.x SYSTEMS ***You must have BackupExec for Netware installed on your server or have the BEDIAG.NLM file available*** 1. From the server (system or remote console) prompt: type BEDIAG.NLM > press ENTER (This will place a file called BEDIAG.FAX in the BKUPEXEC directory on your server) 2. Edit the file: BKUPEXEC\BEDIAG.FAX from the server prompt or a workstation mapped drive. This file contains the line with the model type of your drive, part #, and firmware revision level. Confirm that the Firmware revision level is 7270. If for any reason the firmware level has not changed, follow the upgrade procedures a second time. If the drive continues to display the original firmware level after the drive and system have been reloaded, please contact IBM Technical Support.
