KNOWN ISSUES ------------- - Operating System support for Microsoft Windows XP/2000/NT4 Installation Instructions ------------------------- This package installs the Gemplus GemPC400 Compact Smart Card Reader Writer from IBM and the SmartDiag Reader Tools Microsoft Windows XP and windows 2000 contain built-in functional device drivers that will automatically detect and install the smart card reader writer. To determine if you should update the smart card reader driver, refer to the Summary of Changes section. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later is required for installation. Windows 2000/XP/NT4 ------------------- MANUAL INSTALL: 1. Start Windows 2000/XP/NT4 and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive. 3. Click Start and then click Run. 4. Specify C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\GEMPLUS\SETUP.EXE and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions. 6. Restart the system for the driver to be effective. UNATTENDED INSTALLATION This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows 2000/XP/NT4. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive. 4. Click Start, then click Run. 5. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\GEMPLUS\SETUP.EXE /S, and click OK. Note:To Start the SmartDiag v2.0 reader diagnostics tools, click Start-->Programs-->Gemplus-->SmartDiag-->SmartDiag v2.0 Manual uninstall Gemplus Smart Card Reader Tools (SmartDiag v2.0). 1. Start Windows Windows/2000/XP/NT4.0. 2. Logon with administrative privileges. 3. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel. 4. Double-click Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel. 5. Select Gemplus Smart Card Reader Tools. 6. Click Add/Remove. 7. Click Yes in the confirmation window. 8. If asked to restart the system, click Yes. Manual uninstall Gemplus GemPC400 PCMCIA Smart Card Reader Refer to the heading for your operating system for instructions to uninstall the Smart Card Reader and drivers. Windows 2000 and Windows XP --------------------------- To uninstall the Smart Card Reader, do the following: 1. From the computer desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage. 2. Select Device Manager from the list on the left. 3. Expand the Smart Card Readers item in the right side of the dialog box. 4. Right-click Gemplus GemPC400 PCMCIA Smart Card Reader and select Uninstall. 7. If asked to restart the system, click Yes. NOTE: If you do not remove the Gemplus Smart Card hardware, then Windows will detect the Gemplus Smart Card again on the next boot. Determining which version is installed -------------------------------------- The following operating systems use one of the listed device drivers. Right-click the My Computer icon. 2. Click Search or Find. 3. Type one of the driver names in Named: field. For example, if you are using Windows 2000, type gpr400.sys in the field. 4. Click the search button. 5. It lists the driver(s). If it does not list the smart card reader driver, the smart card reader writer device driver is not installed in your system. 6. Right-click the driver that is found in the Windows folder. 7. Click the Properties. 8. Click the Version tab. 9. Click the Product Version in the Items name: field.
